Tips for porting to Public Mobile (Especially for people who are getting the in-app eSIM activation)

What is porting a number? It is the process or moving or 'Porting' the same number from one carrier to another. It usually is a quick & easy step, but if you are having difficulties, see if any of these help!

Hello newcomers to Public Mobile! If your port didn't go quite as planned, look at these steps to ensure that next port request with the department goes well!

Red Text = Old Provider Stuff

Purple Text: New (Public Mobile) Provider Stuff

P.S. Please don't delete the eSIM from your phone!!! You will then have to get a new eSIM for $10!

Please follow these tips so then you don't have to contact the porting department.

  1. When activating, it will ask you to add the eSIM before it requests the port. Please make sure that your Old Provider's SIM card / eSIM is the one sending the SMS, not the Public Mobile one. Just to play it safe, I'd recommend turning off / removing the Public Mobile SIM to ensure a steady port process. Ports can take up to 5 Hours, but less than 15 minutes if within the TELUS family.
  2. Once your old provider's SIM says 'No Service,' 'SOS Only,' or 'Emergency Calls Only,' that means that your port is finished! You may now remove your old provider's sim and (Possibly) throw it away because most providers after 90 days of No account assigned with the SIM card, it is trash & cannot get re assigned with a new account. You may receive a welcome text or a port complete text from Public Mobile with the new SIM.
  3. Once you are done with the port, one of the main things that you will notice is that when logging into 'My Account' for the first time, you don't get a email fallback option (Usually happens.) You only get SMS 2FA option. That is one way to know that you SIM is fully functional and that your port is successful.

If any of these aren't working, you can contact a Public Mobile representative CS_Agent Here!

If your port didn't go well (Old provider's SIM still working after 5 hours) ask one of our fellow community members at the 'Get Support' tab or by clicking here! They will help with your port by sending a private message with the phone number to give them a call (The Private Message will be going to your Community Inbox.)

Have a great day!

Hope this serves you well to make sure that your port is successful!  😉
