Textnow - how to keep a number

To keep a number, instead of paying $6.99/year , anyone has any trick to keep a particular number for free?  I read something it was asking to make an outgoing call or text every day or two or it will expire, is it really that quick?

Before going to TextNow, I used TextMe and they sent me a notice that I had a day left to make a call or text. I waited to see what happens and the next day my number was gone. So I switched to TextNow with less frequent notices.

I would get the same notice every 3-4 weeks. So I make a call to my landline or text my friend.

I've had my free TextNow number for a coupla years now. Every so often, I get a message saying that I need to call or text someone, in order to keep my free account active. Once a month or so. 

No problema !
