can you setup an account and activate the pm sim without having the sim card in the phone? I need to keep current bell sim in phone to allow for the porting process.

Thanks for those directions. I followed them as indicated and had no troubles. The porting process was completed in 30 minutes.

Hello @pwar44 . Just to add to @computergeek541 and I feel this is the opinion of most customers here... first and foremost, sign up for PM using the app. Get a temporary number. Once your service is set up, make sure you can make calls and receive calls. Make sure you can text and get texts. And finally, make sure your data works. IF and ONLY IF all these work, then you can go into your account and request your number to be ported over from Bell. Sometimes things don't always work the way we want. It's better to be safe than sorry and not have a phone line for hours or a day or so. Once you have put in the port request, remove the PM SIM card and place your Bell SIM card back in and reboot the phone. You will receive a text from Bell asking to port. You will have 1.5 hours to reply. Once you reply YES, wait for the name Bell from the top of your phone go to SOS. Once it's in SOS mode, that means the port has gone through and you can remove the Bell SIM and insert the PM SIM and reboot your phone. Enjoy

Having the Public Mobile SIM card in the phone is not required to activate it, but you will need to eventually insert it to start using the Public Mobile services. You'll need to have your Bell Mobility service still at hand so that you can reply to a text message from Bell to approve the number porting.
