1. how long can I stop cell service and keep my phone number?

to minimize anxiety, why not just downgrade to lowest plan availabe ($15) then just let autopay renew it every 30 days as usual. You'll be out less than $100 and you won't have to think about your PM service until you're home and you can upgrade to desired plan at that time. No hassles !!!
