Like others have said, it sounds like you're transferring/porting your phone number.  This is actually quite a complicated process that requires you to confirm that it's actually you in order to transfer... then it takes a few hours for the systems to all recognize that your number is actually transferred.

 

As @computergeek541 mentioned, make sure you confirm on your old SIM card that you authorize the transfer.  If not done within 90 minutes of the original request, it times out and you'll have to retry.  Sometimes if you miss it but reply to confirm anyway, it retriggers the request.

 

Once that request is authorized, your old SIM/account will be automatically cancelled and stop working.  A couple hours later, your Public Mobile account should be fully working.  If you still have issues, let us know what you've tried and we'll provide you some more details on other options to try.  🙂

Let me guess... You are port your old number to PM.

PM had done its part to set up you number for your to use at PM server. (i.e. Stage 1).

You are at the Stage 2 waiting your old provider to release your phone number to PM.

 

Mobile providers need to verify that your are the owner of your old number before releasing you number to PM.  Did you keep your old SIM card in your phone to receive port out confirmation text message?  If not, put you old SIM in your phone and create a moderator support ticket for help using the chat bobble at the bottom right hand corner of this page.
Tell SIMon what is the issue (important)  -  port request 

 

Number porting is a 2 stage process:
Stage 1. After submitted your porting request, PM set up your old number on your PM account. Login to your account. Select the [Plan and Add-Ons] tab. Is your old number showing on the [Plan and Add-Ons] page?
If yes, PM has done its work to setup your old number for you to call out, send text and data.

Stage 2. Now, you are waiting for your old provider to release your number to PM. Not until your old provider release your number, all the incoming calls and texts will continue to go to your old provider. You can continue to use the old provider SIM card until it stops working which is the indication that your number was released to PM.

It can take a few hours for your port to be completed.  You need to put your previous provider's sim and respond to text confirmation.

If you requested a number to be ported in, this means that it's not done yet.  You need to put your old carrier's SIM card back in to reply to a text message that gives them authorization to transfer the phone number to Public Mobile.
