Porting existing mobile number to Public Mobile

G0ng
Great Neighbour / Super Voisin

I have been looking at the content for this question but nowhere can I find an all-in-one answer.

I have a current active cell phone number with Rogers.

I purchased a new iPhone.

I have set up account with Public Mobile.

I purchased a physical Telus SIM card.

Now, here is my question: what is the exact order of execution to get my new iPhone running with Public Mobile??

Thanks for your effort Community!

Gary

Hi Meow, I responded earlier through my cell but not sure if received it. AM replying now through the community forum. Thanks for your reply and I figured out what you meant with buying a PM SIM (and not TELUS SIM card; I just bought a PM SIM at the Telus store)! I am getting ready to set up my phone.

1. You need Public Mobile SIM, not Telus
2. When you get PM SIM, log in to your account and go to:

- Change phone number

- Change SIM number

- Transfer Phone Number

Booth accounts have to be active in order to transfer phone number.
KEEP Roger's SIM in your phone. You should receive SMS from Rogers within 90 min to authorize number transfer to PM. Type YES. In a few hours numbers should be transferred to PM. Pull out Rog SIM, push PM SIM. You should have full service. If not, wait a bit or come back and provide further info what you did and what service you do not have and guys will try to help you.

Remember: HERE there is NO PM staff. Only us, customers helping other customers.

@G0ng  Just to add, you need to  keep your Rogers sim in the phone (and the Rogers account active) until you have replied Yes to the port authorization text they will send you.  You have to reply within 90 minutes of receiving the text.  Once your Rogers sim no longer works, you can insert your Public Mobile sim and restart the phone.  A Telus sim will not work as @eddieO noted.

@G0ng although Telus owns Public Mobile, they also own Koodo so you need to have a SIM card that is specific to which ever brand you want to sign up with. You can purchase a Public Mobile SIM card at a Telus/Koodo or Mobile Klinik store in person for $10 or you can order one through Amazon for $5. Once you have a Public Mobile SIM card install the PM app on your phone, sign up and select the plan you wish to have and just follow the steps. One of the last steps will ask if you want a new number or to transfer in a number. If you choose transfer in, make sure you have your Rogers account number to provide and don't bother entering your phone's IMEI number, it will only cause more headaches. Honestly, if you follow the steps it's pretty straight forward.
