Port a business number to Public Mobile?

Hello,

I've searched the knoledgebase and apologize if this is somewhere else, but I'm tasked with investigating if we can move our non-profit organization's phone number (port it?) to public mobile.  Telus wants us to buy a phone outright for $750 and then pay $100 per month to change to mobile, and this seems ridiculous.  Any advice would be appreciated.

@jellybean honestly, I'm not sure I'd suggest you do this.  I know that the Telus option is more expensive and you are a non-profit with slim operating margins.  But, in some ways, you do get what you pay for.  You probably need immediate assistance should anything go wrong, and with Public Mobile, it doens't work that way.  The support model is actually fairly efficient overall but when busy, the wait time for moderator assistance, plus the back-and-forth messaging can be frustrating.  If this is a mission-critical phone number, I'd recommend you pay the extra and stick with the first tier Telus where you will definitely get better support and less buggy systems.  This is my humble opionin but I wanted to present some food for thought.

Yes. Any Canadian number may be transferred. Landlines and VOIP take up to 2 weeks; cell phone a few hours. Do not close your old account; that should happen automatically once complete.

I suggest you read the following:

Phones must be unlocked, or locked to Koodo/Telus to work on Public Mobile; and be compatible with the network bands found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telus_Mobility

Remember this is the only location for help; there is no call centre. However, we are a friendly group, so ask us anything.
