Hi Community!

Almost ordered OnePlus Nord N10 5G and then found that you can not use mobile data with this phone on Telus because of the glitch

https://mobilesyrup.com/2021/01/19/hold-off-buying-oneplus-nord-telus-issue/

Is anyone bought this phone and using for PM?

Do we have the same APN settings as Telus?

Thanks a lot!

PS Need to buy phone urgently, please respond if you see this!

It seems insane that seasoned OEMs cannot insert a complete set of APNs into the configuration file so that manual additions would not be required.  I used to run third party roms all the time back in the day and the APN configuration file provided in github was totally complete and crucially include the Public Mobile APN.  It also makes no sense that other models of OnePlus don't have this issue.  I can definitely vouch that the 7T model works fine on this service without need to add/edit APNs.

Public Mobile does not use the same APN settings as Telus. I am curious tnough because even when there is a mistake in the settings, you should be able to add a new APN to take care of things.  And for Android devices that don't allow that, we know that using a Freedom SIM card is a often a way around that.  I would be surprised if someone's already working on custom software for this phone to get around this issue. This of course would void the warranty, but if you're intrested in reading about that type of thing, XDA  Forums would be a good site to visit.

@cellphonesaver :Since Public used Telus cell towers and there is reported glitch with Telus - you shouldn't risk buying that phone if you want to use Public Mobile.

Nifty trick there @Spudster . I wonder if that would work for the old 8.1 problem. Of course it should be sp.mb.com instead of sp.telus.com.

The same article states the following, @cellphonesaver

Alternative fix:

A user who had this issue sent us this claiming it solved the problem of the missing ‘+’ icon.

Since this is a user-submitted fix and not something directly from OnePlus, it’s important to mention that you should proceed with caution.

Open Settings > Wi-Fi & Network > SIM & Network

Pop open your SIM card tray and leave it open

Stay on the SIM & Network settings page

Pop your SIM back in the phone and tap on ‘Select Access point Names’ as quickly as you can

Now the ‘+’ icon should be visible and you can tap on it

Now that you’ve begun the process of adding an APN you need to fill out the page with the following information:

Name: TELUS

APN: sp.telus.com

MMSC: HTTP://aliasredirect.net/proxy/mmsc

MMS Proxy: 74.49.0.18

MMS Port: 80

MCC: 302

MNC: 220

APN type: default,mms,supl

APN Protocol: IPv4/IPv6

MVNO type: GID MVNO:54

Finally, tap on the three dots in the top left, and hit save. This should solve the problem.

Here are the PM APN settings.

Name: Public Mobile
APN: sp.mb.com
Proxy: Leave blank
Port: Leave blank
Username: Leave blank
Password: Leave blank
Server: Leave blank
MMSC: http://aliasredirect.net/proxy/mb/mmsc
MMSC proxy: 74.49.0.18
MMS port: 80
MCC: 302
MNC: 220
Authentication type: Leave blank
APN type: default,mms,agps,supl,fota,hipri
APN protocol: IPv4
APN roaming protocol: IPv4
Bearer: Unspecified
MVNO type: GID
MVNO value: 4D4F

Don't forget to save these settings and then select this APN as the active one.

@cellphonesaver :Try using the phone compatibility tool by clicking activate SIM card at bottom of page.

@cellphonesaver : That story is kinda scare-mongering. They then go on to say you can add the APN. So what's the problem? We see lots of cases of people needing to manually put in the APN settings. The related problem is whether the phone so much as lets you do that. But the community knows of some workarounds for that too.
