I transferred my number several days ago but never received the confirmation message from my previous carrier. I didn't know this was needed and now I need to have someone from public mobile resubmit my transfer manually

Did you leave the old SIM in your phone while waiting for the text confirming you are porting over to PM?
If your old SIM still works then you didn’t reply with YES confirming you are porting over to PM within the 90 minute window and porting is aborted.
When you call then number to restart the porting. You need the old SIM in your phone to reply to the text.
