1- obtained public mobile sim card at a Telus or Koodo store, or online here: https://www.publicmobile.ca/en/on/get-help/articles/get-a-sim-card
2 -activate it here: https://publicmobile.ca/en/on/portal/activation. You will see a section to port over another number, that is active from another provider, during the activation process.
Check to see if your number can be ported from this Koodo website (Telus owns Koodo and Public Mobile), so, same allowances here:

@Darougar hi you buy a public sim activate an account port your number during the activation process, if you already activated , go into your self serve to transfer your number make sure your old account is active

keep your fido account acitve, and activated online for public mobile,
and you will getting from fido SMS about port out reply yes and after that take the SIM card fido out and insert new SIM card.
