Endless Chinese UPS Robocalls

THIS has been tormenting me all year long. No matter how many numbers I report and block (even then, they're still able to leave a voicemail), I get at least one of these every other day. Not even changing my number works!

Make the best possible contacts list. Include every one and any one you know...even enemies.

Set up your voice mail to leave callers name, number and message.

Set up your do no disturb to only answer calls from your contacts list 24/7.

And maybe set up to answer calls if caller calls 2 times in 3 minutes.

Watch the relationship to your recents and voice mails.....delete your voicemails and block your recents in red accordingly or an enemy.

Any voicemails that are legitimate...you may want to add number to your contacts.

I use Google's call screening feature to filter out spam calls.  With Pixel phones, the call screen feature asks the other end who they are and what they are calling about.  Their speech gets transcribed and displayed on your phone.  If it is legit, you'll get to see who their conversation and you can answer the call; if it is spam you can hang up - and most of the time if spammers hear the Google call screen in use they'll hang up right away.

Pick up calls ONLY from familiar numbers.

Disable voicemail so NOBODY can leave vmail.

Another way to turn on extended absence:

To "disable" voicemail, dial *004*8080000000#

This will cause all calls to either ring forever or get fast busy at the point they normally would have been diverted to the voicemail system.

Whenever you need to reset it back to defaults, dial #004#

The postpaid brands Telus Mobility & Koodo offer a service called "call control" which basically presents a menu where the caller has to press a number to get through to actually ring your phone. The idea is the robocallers will basically never get past this unless it's an actual human calling that can understand what they need to do to get through -- but this feature is not available with Public Mobile, which is somewhat understandable as this is the value/no frills offering.

One minor thing you can do with Public Mobile since you mentioned that your blocked callers are still able to leave a voicemail, is to modify the conditional forward that applies for blocked or declined calls by sending them to a dead-end number instead of your voicemail service. For example you can dial this code:

*67*3063370005#

... and now any calls from numbers on your blocked numbers list, or calls that you manually decline (vs let ring until picked up via voicemail) will hear the announcement "At the customers request, this line is equipped for outgoing calls only.".

You can reset this back to going to voicemail by dialing ##67# or ##004#.

using 0000000000 also works -- it's an invalid number, but still allows being configured. This results in the caller hearing a call failure or possibly an endless ring -- but they will never reach your voicemail.

Cheers!

NEVER answer any calls from numbers/people you either don't recognize or are not on your contact list.  It can be difficult to ignore a call, but you will get used to it.

If the person calling you needs you that badly, they will leave a voice message; if they don't bother leaving one, you likely didn't need to hear from them in the first place.

IF YOU DO ANSWER, and the caller is a spammer, it's likely your number will get logged as one which will get answered, so anticipate spam calling to increase (at least in the short term).

Don't answer any calls unless you recognize the calling number. If it's a legit call, they'll leave a message and you can chose to call back if you want.

Once the bad guys know you answer any calls..they'll keep hounding you.

There's nothing PM CSA's can do to stop them so forget asking them. Just don't answer unknown numbers !!

@threefourzero   there is really nothing much you can do.  It's affecting everyone in different providers, not just Public Mobile

Blocking number won't be useful, either.  They are spoofing number (caller display makes up fake numbers that not belong to them) so you are blocking numbers that not really being used to call you.  Plus, they just keep changing the number

Also, at this point , there is no action PM can do.  So, there is no use to create time with PM.  Just a false hope
