Duplicate number?!?!?

I just registered for a new number today at public mobile. Picked a number and checked that it was “available”. Got a text saying everything is good and my autopay reward is added to my account. That was 4 hours ago, since then I have trying to call/text my new number but it is not working. I just called my new number again with different phone and someone else picked up saying the new number is theirs. How can I get this fixed so that I can use my phone? Also I noticed my usage is going up but I have not been using any text or minutes. Please help! It’s 289-98*-**** number with public mobile.

If the other person did have the number first, you will, unfortunately need to change your phone number.  As strange as it sounds, Telus also did this to me before, except they assinged my phone number to someone else.  They were forced to assign that other person a new phone number.  This type of thing reaally shouldn't happen.
