Hi there,
I am trying to choose between the
- $36 50GB CA/US plan (5G)
- $34 65GB CA/US plan (4G) *90 day sub
Does the PM network even have 5G speeds?
Is there much difference for speed on the PM network, between 5G & 4G?
*** I don't have a 5G phone right now, BUT will get one "IF" it makes a notable difference on the PM network
Thank you

Thanks for your input, and great idea!

You can watch youtube vids at 360p. It's ok for some sites like reddit or web browsing, but some sites that are more bandwidth intensive it's unusable. If you have your own wifi router you can try and cap your wifi speed to 0.5 mbps and see how it is.
Thursday
Yeah, fair points to make there

IMO there is no point in the unlimited data if you never hit your cap. US roaming (if you will use it) or even just more high speed data are more useful options because the kind of use required to hit the limit won't be possible once you hit the throttled speed. It makes more sense if your plan is like 2GB but not if you have 10s of gigabytes to go through.
And regardless of your plan if you're about to run out of data you always have the option to slow your own usage down without having to deal with the speed being reduced.
Thursday
@Chris_ It’s not great but good enough for email and some web surfing but won’t be any good for video or games

Hey folks,
Anyone here have experience with using the throttled 512Kbs data on their phones?
Can you still do most things fine? Could I stream a Youtube video still?
How much slower is the experience anyways?
Anyone able to describe it from real experience?
I just realized as I've been contemplating a plan change, that I have "unlimited" data after by 40gb are used up, at a throttled 512kbs speed. So now wondering maybe I'd be best off keeping it...
Thank you
Wednesday
Lol, all this and I may just wait till Black Friday now... I'd be a bit shocked if they don't have anything at least as good as what's offered right now. Guess we'll see.
Wednesday
@Chris_ Yes that’s a good point , and with Black Friday around the corner you never know what might pop up , currently have 60GB $34 30 day 5G plan . I will never spend more then $34 for any plan unless it’s true unlimited plan even then I would pay more then $40 for that . All comes down to what you need and what your willing to pay the more people that refuse to spend more then what they need carriers will take notice and rate plans accordingly is my guess
Wednesday
I guess my next concern is...
As I've been told here by some, once you move your plan up in price, you may not see cheaper plans available to change down to ever...
That 65gb plan is actually a $45 plan *$34/mo on a 90-day sub
Maybe I'd be stuck in that ~$45 tier forever after that plan change?
Wednesday
@Chris_ That’s marketing for ya throw more data on that you most likely won’t need to have you spend more all carriers are doing it . So unless you don’t have home internet I think you be hard pressed to use 65GB every 30 days or 195GB over 90 days but at $34 month you can’t go wrong . Hope one day we see true unlimited plans for $40 and we can all ditch home internet service
Wednesday
Yeah, cuz in a way you may even be exceeding that 65/195Gb without any issue... I've never exceeded much past 10 to think of anyways... maybe got to 20 once, cuz I tried? But someday I may want to tether with my laptop sometimes, or if I'm on a road trip, I'd really be relying on that data...

@Chris_ wrote:Oh...? K that's sort of a key point here.
Is the CAN/US 4G plan "unlimited" at lower speeds AFTER using up the 65Gb ?
Or is the "unlimited" at 512Kbs AFTER using the __Gbs only available on Canada plans?
Or is it ONLY the 5G plans that are not "unlimited" n lower speeds after the __GBs are used up?
Like I mentioned below @Chris_ nope. Once you use your 50GB in that 30 days, no more data for you unless you buy a data add which costs more money. Hence the reason having the extra 15GB is better value.
Wednesday
@Chris_ No 4G plan is unlimited only 5G plans that are not CAN/US plans have 512kbps throttled data once the plans data bucket is exhausted

@Chris_ Unlimited data is only on non CAN/US 5G plans . Rest just have a data bucket and that’s it
Wednesday
Data Usage is "Unlimited" on both plans, isn't it? Just the we only get the high speeds up to our 50/65GB Limit...?

Just a thought....
- $36 50GB CA/US plan (5G)
$108 over 3 30 day payments. 50GB of 5G speed data x 3 = 150GB of 5G speed data - once you used your 50GB of data, no more data for the 30 day period.
- $34 65GB CA/US plan (4G) *90 day sub
$102 for 90 days x 1 payment. 195GB 4G data speeds bucket. You get it all at once.
So look at it this way. $108 150GB 5G speeds vs $102 195GB 4G speeds.
Wednesday
@Chris_ In my experience it’s easier to get up to 100mbs of 4 g plan then it is to get up 250mbs of 5G plan . I find the 4G plans are more consistent in speed test then 5G
Wednesday
It's the "up to" that I'm looking for clarity on from users experience.
Are customers actually seeing much higher than 100Mbps with their 5G phone on a 5G plan here?
Is the experience between 5G and 4G fairly noticeable

Personally @Chris_ that extra 15GB of data at regular speeds is more important than the unlimited at 512kbps after 50GB. Just didn't see that big of a difference with speeds because your location is what matters. You may find 5G speeds with a 5G phone in your home area but your friends area or work area is slower. JMO.
EDIT: the 5G plan doesn't seem to come with unlimited at 512kbps in that offer so... the extra 15GB is more important than speeds IMO.
Wednesday
HI @Chris_
all plans can use PM's 3G, 4G and 5G network
The difference is the speed you will get
Which ever network you use, a 3G speed plan give you up to 3Mbps, 4G plan gives you up to 100Mbps, and 5G up to 250Mbps
Wednesday
@Chris_ Even though 4G is up to 100mbs and 5G is up to 250mbs its sounds like it’s twice as fast but in reality it might take 1-2 seconds longer to load webpage on 4G
