I got the following text yesterday from 5194

Public Mobile Here,

Hi XXXXX, changes are happening to our network and we want to make sure you stay up to date. In order to ensure that your phone's picture and group messaging functionality is maintained, the newest software settings and updates must be installed on your phone.

You will need to input new APN settings onto your device, please visit https://www.publicmobile.ca/get-help/articles/set-up-data-on-an-android-phone to see the correct settings, and how to enter them. We also recommend updating to the latest software version available if you have not done so already.

To learn more about these network changes visit: https://www.publicmobile.ca/en/get-help/articles/picture-messaging-updates

APN Settings I have now are:

Name: Public Mobile
MMSC: http://aliasredirect.net/proxy/mmsc
Proxy: 74.49.0.18
Proxy Port: 80

It seems that people are still suggesting these settings Here so I assume I'm good? I don't see any posts about APN but I cant be the only one?

Fixed the MMSC line. thank you for that and the MMC/MNC information. Sounds like I'm good. Cheers!

Are you sure about that MMSC line? All the references I've known and the link you gave include a mb/ before the last mmsc.
Yes, some of the terms can be different in different phones. So you figured out yours. Good.

The MCC and MNC come from the sim. They are cell system indicators that the provider uses. No need to edit them. Nor would I.

For anyone else looking like I was, the following works for MMS (I don't care about data so I never tested it)

Name: Public Mobile
MMSC: http://aliasredirect.net/proxy/mb/mmsc
Proxy: mmscproxy.mobility.ca
Proxy Port: 8799

I'm still curious what the following are for and if it'll be a problem for me in the future.

  • MCC: 302
  • MNC: 220

Thanks. Really not looking to upgrade my phone so I guess I have to find a way to get the settings to work.

The new settings:

I don't have options for MMS port, MCC, or MNC and the lack of a "MMSC proxy port" makes me assume that it's still port 80. Maybe I'll try 8799.
