When I run out of data I have no message left but I have unlimited in my plan

@Bigmeandean if you're using an iPhone you need to change the settings so you are able to send sms instead of through iMessage

• open settings>messages
• scroll down to "send and receive" and make sure your phone number is registered

If you are using iMessages specify sms in your settings

You won't need any data for your texts

Your data must be enabled (even though you don't have any left)

Also try rebooting your phone.

Edit:  Clarification even for sending/receiving MMS you don't need plan data only that your data is enabled.
