@PaulineA   Sometimes letting the message play fully will allow you to connect unless of course you are on a limited plan and then do as suggested and purchase the 500 mins add-on and also it's always a good idea to add +1 in front of practically all numbers these days.  Most new phones, I believe, automatically save +1 in the contact list so most people don't hear the pre-recorded message you're hearing.

Try putting a 1 in front of the number.

Are you on the $15 plan and out of minutes? If so you can buy a 500 minute add on for $5 that rolls over each cycle until consumed.
