Account Suspension for a few months

rafayaleem
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

Is it possible to suspend my child's SIM /account for a few months as schools are closed due to covid and he does not need the phone while at home(he is on autopay $10 plan with a few voice and data ad-ons applied).

If yes , how?

Secondly  , what happens to the add-ons and discounts applied to the account with this suspension? .

Will they remain intact or be lost?

@rafayaleem , you can suspend an account for up to 90 days without issue.  I suggest not going right to the edge.  All add-ons and bonuses in the account are not lost with account suspension.

You can suspend your account for up to 90 days.  You would need to make a payment before 90 days to keep it active.

You can Suspend your service if you’d like to prevent any calls or messages from being sent or received. Doing so will not keep your plan from expiring; however, it will ensure that your credit card is not charged at your next renewal date if you’re on AutoPay.Just follow these steps:

  1. Log into your Self-Serve account
  2. Go to Plan and Add-Ons > Lost/Stolen Phone
  3. Select Suspend Service

Note that after 90 days in suspend, your account will be deactivated permanently so be sure to return to this page.

If You Find Your Phone:

Hooray! Simply follow the same steps below to resume your service.

  1. Log into your Self-Serve account
  2. Go to Plan and Add-Ons > Lost/Stolen Phone
  3. Select Resume Service

@rafayaleem You can suspend the account up to 90 days. If it is dormant for more than 90 days, the account is closed. It's recommended that you reactivate around the 85th day. You can do this, if there are no credits by removing your credit card, or if there is at least a $10 credit by placing the account on Lost stolen see article https://www.publicmobile.ca/en/on/get-help/articles/lost-or-stolen-phone.  The add ons will not be affected. By discounts, it depends upon the detail of the promotion.  For example if you signed up under the last Lunar promotion,  if the account is dormant, you lose the $5 discount.

Please note- you have to reactivate the suspended account yourself, merely reading your credit card doesn't do it. You may reactivate a suspended account online or by calling 611.
Via your account online
1. If you have already registered, or will first register, a credit card, go to step 2. OR deposit a voucher for at least your plan cost and go to step 3.
2. Go to the payment tab, select single payment and  amount due.
3. Select the reactivate account button.
4. Restart your phone.
or can also use 611 to make your payment( once you know your 4 digit pin):
1. press 1 to make payment
2. press 2 credit card ( or 1 voucher)
3. press 1 amount due.
4. Restart your phone.

Stay safe.

@rafayaleem You can only suspend for the max 90 days before the account is deactivated. To suspend, disable AutoPay and remove your cc from the account. It will fail to renew on your next renewal because there is no payment method available. If you have sufficient funds, the plan will renew itself unless you enable lost/stolen phone feature.
If your son still want to keep the plan active during these times, don't hesitate to reach out to the Moderator_Team and they can help as they understand the times we are all going through.

 @rafayaleem

You have 90 days to reactivate a suspended account. After that the account is fully deactivated.

Add-ons will stay with the account.

You can turn off Autopay and remove your credit card...then in 85 days or so, put card back on file and turn on autopay again. Don't wait for 89 days as at day 90...plan is lost for good.

Add-ons stay and rewards are valid only from when plan is renewed.

You can suspend the account for upto 90 days before it would be lost due to non payment before that period.  Pay around day 86 just to be on the safe side to deal with any account issues.  All add-ons stay with the account and will be available for use once the account is reactivated.  Discounts get applied only when payment is done.

Edit:  BTW suspending the account be repeated as long as you make a payment once in each 90 day suspension period.
