25 dollar refer a friend promo

went to walmart phone counter to do the refer a friend and to ask about the 25 dollar promo and how to activate it online and to get a sim card to do it. was informed there was no need to do it at home it could be done in store much to my surprise and delight. so my friend received a 10 dollar credit and i received a 1 dollar credit !! yayyyyyy!!!!!! my question is why does the offer only count if done from someplace other than the place where these things normally get done. and why should i miss out on a reward for firstly referring a friend as directed to receive a reward which will not be forthcoming for being silly enough to follow the advice of a walmart representative? its actions such as these that will eventually have people leave and get service elsewhere. also ive read online that if you mess up the process your money is gone and theres no way to recover it... seems like a doomsday kinda scenario regarding public mobile with the level of fallout which will likely ensue as more and more walmart phone counter guys mislead the general public with regards to these types of offers. thanks

Just to add another weird Walmart twist to this story -- one of my friends was in Ontario (sorry I don't know the exact Walmart location) and she mentioned the $25 refer a friend credit, and the Walmart employee activated it there using an internet connection in the electronics dept and the PM web portal. She still got her credit as a result, as did my friend who's number she used as the referal, but I nearly had a heart attack when she said they activated it. Obviously this probably went against Walmart's rules, but I'm glad the clerk helped her out by doing that. Most customers aren't that lucky as we have seen here.

I understand your frustration-  (1)I don’t think that Walmart clerks intentionally lie but it seems that they just seem to wing it.

(2) with regards to the long distance from your living too to another room in  your house. I have had the same experience with my Bell Mobility plan but in my case it was from my driveway to the house was long distance. Bell explained that was due to my house being almost centred  between two bell towers. — don’t have this problem with PM because all minutes are ld

@frederrikk41 I agree with @Anonymous , you knew that Walmart had lots of bad reviews and you still chose to trust them and then get upset with PM for it?

Unless your living room is so close to a provincial border that you are able to pick up towers on both sides of the border from there, there was probably something else going on there and either way I would not have waited 10 days to get it fixed.

That's some fine ranting going on there.

First of all...Walmart is not Public Mobile. They ARE there to make money.

We know that Walmart does these things. PM has been informed about it. Nothing seems to be done about it. Agreed that that seems to be on PM.

Many thousands of people are merrily going along enjoying life without bother from this cell service provider.

We get reports from people where they were able to get a SIM alone. Other times not.

The $25 is online only. For the store to say that, is an outright lying manipulation to get you to sign up with them so THEY get the money...which is what they're there for. If you've never been lied to by a salesperson then you would have to be exceedingly fortunate...or unaware that what you just heard was in fact a lie. Which is what has happened here.

oh and to answer your question i did receive a notice from public mobile about the 25 dollar 2 way refer a friend offer. and i did read about walmarts reviews online which was exactly why i asked before buying but was assured the 25 dollar credit wouldnt be affected by the clerk performing the transfer in store. this as far as im concerned appears to be some sort of collusion between corporate and the kiosk to offer the proverbial dangling carrot and before you take a bite of it snatch it away for many giggles. hahaha . very funny public mobile!!! i hope come april1st 2019 you dont have a customer to be seen. this customer will certainly be gone if i dont see any action on this issue. as well as 3 other customers who will also be bye bye...it wont sink the good ship public mobile i admit but its stll a warning shot across the bow that will probably be ignored or go unnoticed amongst the corporate hierarchy.

i just went to walmart and complained directly and also bought a 40 dollar top up voucher to activate data with their 40 dollar deal.when i tried to change my plan from the 25 dollar talk and text it prompted me to top up before doing anything and then re-activated my 25 dollar plan with no data automatically so now i have no data again and 16 dollars in my public mobile bucket that i have exactly no intention of ever using.. this wouldnt really bother me except for the fact that last month for 10 days after switching i couldnt call my wife in our living room while sitting next to her due to my not having long distance nor could i make any local calls whatsoever... i think probably the phones were reading different towers to create this sort of confusion but i feel no fault in any of this as i didnt set the infrastructure up ive just been silly enough to subscribe to it. lesson learned. never again. for the next 30 days im bound to public mobile as the service ( which i already know will be unuseable just like the last 30 days) but after that itll be some other service provider. im so pissed at public mobile right now i couldnt possibly verbalise it. so much so that next month i will be back to lucky mobile- a bell canada lower tier service provider.... it speaks volumes to the situation as there is no corporation on planet earth i despise more than bell canada - enter public mobile to swing that situation.

@wickedgx Couldn't agree with you more. Rep tried to do the same thing when I got my SIM card at WalMart yesterday trying to tell me he could only give me a SIM if I activated in store.

I ended up getting him to sell it to me unactivated but definitely took some convincing that most people would not want to do much less read the fine print on the promos saying you must activate yourself online.

I agree with @stonechucker. They should be removed from selling Public Mobile sim cards. Wal-Mart will keeping gaining commissions with each mislead customer which is really unethical and will lead public mobile to gain bad rep.

The promo specifically says online activations only. So obviously you read that on the website, so why would you think someone working at Walmart would know better, rather than getting your information straight from the source?

With the $25 bonus referral promo, by activating online you would have gotten the one time $25, plus the $1 per month that you're getting, plus the person referred would get a one time $25.

I'm surprised people listen to any input from walmart clerks on anything these days and 'm not sure why third parties are allowed to do activations for PM. Surely the store either gets some kind of kickback, and that costs customers who use self serve/activate online money in higher plan rates as well. Sell the SIM cards sure, but that should be the extend of their involvement.

@Mary_M@Alan_K @Brooke_C,

Once again, Wal-Mart OSL Reps are misleading customers.   Please discontinue Wal-Mart's activations until the 3rd Party OSL follows the rules around your promos.

They are only causing a bad image of Public Mobile when they do this to your new subscribers.

@frederrikk41, you have a totally valid point.  Only the marketing minds can explain the randomness of the Public Mobile promos that switch back and forth between online activation and in store activation as if to maximize customer frustration.  Pair that with Walmart reps that don't follow rules and a willingness of Public Mobile to turn a blind eye to this and you have a complete catastrophe.  It is actually a small wonder that there are not more of these posts in the forum.

I suspect with the Public Mobile brand having their own physical stores might change the way promo terms will be set.  It won't a lot of sense to have online activation deals anymore.  But then again, I am saying this as I am not a marketing specialist, just a confused customer.

@frederrikk41  How did you find out about the $25 referral promo? If it was here somewhere on this site then you would have read that it said online. And a quick read of the promo thread, you would have been warned about the Walmart issues and what some of the bad information that the clerks are spewing forth.

But to your point, PM needs to deal with all of these issues that are swirling around Walmart. So far they have not made any public statement about the controversies
