Love the ads... and we did just bring an ex-Rogers iPhone over to PM today on the $30 province wide/1 GB 3G promo...

I have one more signing up this weekend with some other carrier's phone hopefully!

PM - the only carrier where you bill gets lower every year!

Lol. I read this like bring another carriers phone over...

It certainly looks like it

Public just takes the $120 out of your pocket

Then announces if you want to keep plan you need to migrate to Koodo right away

And only get $100 back

So Public keeps $20 & Koodo gets $15 off of you

For NOTHING

Agree with the gist of what you are expressing PJ-Home.

In the context of being Canadian, living next to the behemoth that wants to dispense with NAFTA and raise trade barriers, when we, their large trade and cultural partner next door to the exceptional republic, and in that system down there the losing national party secretly works with the alphabet spy agencies to try to discredit and foist false claims to somehow undo a valid elected government, the notion of more suggestive or aggressive advertising for mobile wireless phones, isnt really that prominent of an issue. Citizens everywhere dont want alphabet spy agencies claiming 'trust us' we are only watching you to 'protect you'. Moreover, Canadians dont want huge Verizons or AT&T up here knocking out Canadian companies, but we do want competition and a variety of different product offerings, styles and lower good-value pricing -- we would now seem to have that in a Public Mobile model.

FWIW, i think the limmerick chosen by PM marketing, ... "or someone elses" might be an exhortation for over-billed, exhausted users of the 'two monopolist carriers' (if they have paid for their phones, and now own them, pull the corporate SIM cards, (ask them for the Unlock Code since as of Dec-5, 2017 the carriers are not supposed to lock the phone proprietarily anymore - and Telus gave me the lock code over the phone to unlock a brand new Telus Blackberry Passport i am not using, why not the jolly red mister roger and big blue ring teh bell company do this) and WALK AWAY from the high-price service. and come on over to Public Mobile where you can easily build your own little plan, without having to be on contract forever paying for that financed phone).

Think the message of the advertisement was 'dont be afraid to walk away from high prices' (and frequent billing 'mysteries'). Likewise, don't fall for the inuendo that Public Mobile and other small carriers aren't stable, or consistent enough in coverage, when in fact PM runs very well of Telus grid, and its self-managing your own Account administration isnt that onerous.  I do note the comments of some fellow PMers out in Maritimes and other spots where retail access to SIM cards and voucher top ups is distant from your town.  With success, and larger additions of users on PM, that will improve.

I am not a marketing specialist but I feel PM needs some help. I am not a big fan of their ads. I can help! PM please give me a call. Oops no phone number. 🙂 😉

Did someone get paid to create this ad? Probably.

Is it stupid? No.

Age of political correctness? Things happen every single day that challenge this statement. Just because the PC voice is louder, doesn't mean every person agrees.

Is there a place for this ad? Lets not shame Public Mobile for pushing boundries that do not hurt anyone.

You have to ask yourself, will a person who reads this ad respond by saying "Gee, that means I can port over a stolen phone. Let me go rob someone right now!"

If it does get interpreted that way, it is society itself (the same society you say is in an age of policital correctness) and the environment this person was raised in that needs to be questioned. Not the statement of the ad.

Bring your own phone. Or someone else's.

It's none of our business.

Public Mobile: what happens here stays here.

@kav2001c, that's about the same way I took the advertisement.  Someonesle's phone as being a carrier branded device.  I didn't go so far as to think about the blacklisting for non-payment, as most people looking to save money, and not commit a crime.

Theft is definitely not something we promote! We just like the humor 🙂

Happy Wednesday everyone! ❤️

@canucks4life the only way I can interpret "bringing someone else's phone" is they meant to cancel existing contract and go to Public

You either buy a phone outright or get a hardware subsidy right

If still on subsidy it is not your phone yet (and other carrier can blacklist if you do not pay bills)

@will13am Public has been running ads in some VERY strange places lately. No idea what marketing is thinking

I honestly don't know why ad companies are paid so much to do such stupid things.  In the age of political correctness, there's no place for this type of stuff.

This ad is clearly meant to be tongue a cheek as partly a joke.  What is likely meant is that a new customer can use and friend or family members old phone after being gifted. It's technically possible to use someone else's phone (legally) if you have permission.  I could see this add being pulled soon, because it really does sound like "steal a phone; we'll let you use it".  Either way, the ad worked because people are talking about it now.

I find it humorous.

I get it might not be to everyone's taste, but there are far more serious problems in this world than a cheeky ad.

I'm glad that people are starting to hear about Public Mobile now.  They are going for shock value with that ad, but i know quite a few people who do not like this particular one too.
