After using up your data limit, your data should just be significantly throttled instead of cut off completely. So you should still be able to send and receive emails, load web pages, etc. Even on the 150mb data plan you should get an unlimited amount of throttled data after you use up your 150mb. I hate the fact that you could miss important emails if you use up your data cap. Wind already does something similar on their unlimited data plans where you get 5gb at full speed and after you use that up it's throttled, it's too slow to watch videos or download big aps or anything like that but at least it still lets you receive emails and (slowly) load webpages.

If this is not feasible, then how about introducing a new addon for an unlimited amount of throttled data, for those of us who don't need high data speeds but want to make sure we never miss an email. Even if it's severely throttled (eg dial-up speeds from the 1990s) it should still be sufficient for emailing.

Hey @Ben,

Thanks for your idea! While we've seen this with other carriers, there are 2 main reasons we do not do this at Public Mobile. Firstly, we do not have the capability to perform this type of throttling. Secondly, throttling data would negatively impact the pricing of our data rates.

Well, its not the end of the world, at least there's Add-On Data still

Thanks @Igor_M for taking the time to review this idea.

Since Add-ons do not expire, for now I will add a Data Add-on so I can continue using data if I use more than my monthly plan.

Thanks again!

JL.

Reading the response from  pm isnt exactly as black and white as they make it sound.

Technically capping speeds of users is doable, and can be done if there is will from the company.

They also can control costs by full speed to a capped level.   Past that they slow to a point email and txt data will work but not loading of pics or downloads past a low end 2.5 to 3g level.   Most people who use a lot of data will pay extra to have more full speed.   When t-mobile and sprint can do this along with wind, and Rogers owned chatr and mobility can... I really find it hard to buy that telus owned pm can't.

But it's your company and you can run as you wish... I have the right to vote with my wallet too.

I just wish companies in canada would adapt more consumer friendly policies and consumers would reward these companies with giving more business to them.   Maybe it's old fashioned but one look at tmobile in the us should show you that idiology works and works well.

Personally I actually prefer that data be cut off after I reached my data limit... That way I know that I will never go over my monthly plan purchase price... (The whole reason I do prepaid)... Monthly bill is never a surprise and I can simply buy an add on if I need more data or can choose a higher data plan if I think I need it.

OK I see PM has said "Not For Us". I was on the fence until I spent time recently on a community board for a provider that has capped high speed followed by unimited 2G speed. They get MANY complaints once users reach the cap so, even if feasible, I think it is a poor idea. Much better to simply offer bigger data plans.
