I am an Australian tourist - will be in Canada and probably across border to Washington for 4/5 days. How/where can I get a sim card and how much will it cost me (data rates, etc).

I think the prepaid SIM below would be handy to travel both USA and Canada.

Prepaid Sim Card for North America with Unlimited 4G / LTE Mobile Data + Unlimited Calls and Texts Within US, Canada and Mexico from The Largest USA Network AT&T

10days: CA$39.99, 15days: CA$54.99, 21days: CA$57.50, 30days: CA$74.99

@Pablo_72  If you are only going to be here for a short time best to purchase something that will work for bothe Canada and US.

Something like this for example:

Be aware that Austrailia is not on the list of countries you'd be able to call with Public Mobile.... even with the additional International Calling add-on. To call there you'd need a calling card available at 7-11 type stores.

Good point. There's always texting or wifi/voip apps for calling or video chat.

@Pablo_72   Your choice of plan wil depend on how long how long are here for....the $25 plan has 1gb of data or the $40/5gb. There are lots of free WiFi spots...almost every business like restaurants, bars and coffee shops. The city offers free WiFi at libraries, community centres, golf courses etc....  Enjoy your stay!

Amazon.ca has some North American prepaid cards valid for various periods. You can pre purchase one hjere https://www.amazon.ca/s?k=north+american+sim+card&gclid=CjwKCAiA6vXwBRBKEiwAYE7iSwASctfew7kWRSkfp3km....

If you are staying longer. You could look into the answer given below.

You can purchase a sim at many retailers like Walmart.  If you want to use PM in the US then you would need to purchase a roaming add-on which are valid for 10 days from purchase.

https://www.publicmobile.ca/en/on/get-started.  You can find a retailer on the locator link.

Here is more info about US roaming.  You will need to purchase and add it to your account.

How long will you be visiting Canada/North America?

Public Mobile is BYOP. So make sure your phone is compatible and unlocked. You can check for compatibility here.

My understanding is you can purchase SIM card/activate Public Mobile at main airports in Quebec, Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal.

Plans start at $15 for 30 days. US Roaming add-ons start at $8 for 10 days.

If you don't have a Canadian or US credit card, you can buy payment vouchers to top-up.

Hope you enjoy your visit!

@Pablo_72  If you're centrally located in Vancouver for your stay there are many options to get a SIM instead of Wal-Mart. There are many London drugs locations . Downtown, Olympic village, Broadway and cambie. I likevat recommend smaller businesses apple nd berry at Kingsway and 8th ave. But my favourite is go mobile repair at Alberta and Broadway 3 block east of cambie. They always give free SIM card with in store activations.
