Phone has worked flawlessly on network for a year.

Around noon I had no signal but was in a poor coverage area.

Went back into good coverage area restarted phone and saw error  "SIM Card not provisioned".

When I call my number from a land line it says "6UC2 The number you have reached is not in service" then busy tone.

Nexus 6P running 8.1

Apparently failed SIM's are pretty rare. Also, no one wants to hear "go out and spend more money and buy another SIM" when they're already on edge about the self-serve aspect.

All good.

What is the technical difference between a change or activation of a SIM?

Well ok maybe it's MY distinction 🙂

Activate means to me that you are starting a new service.

You already have service so in this context it's a change.

But that's just me 🙂

Just completed "Change SIM" page with my existing SIM number and the page reported back successful.

No change in status.

Another thing I found is when using dialer code *#*#4636#*#* to access network information, there is about a 2 minute pause between pressing the last digit and the page appearing. This could be a corrupt SIM?

(When using dialer code with wife's SIM on this phone the page loads instantly)

I'm going to go buy a new SIM and activate it.

Watch that specific industry terminology 🙂

You want to change the SIM not activate it. 🙂

Interesting that it came back successful yet still isn't working. Can you try the SIM in another phone again? And lost/stolen again?

I messaged Mods about issue yesterday afternoon.

Thinking about replacement SIM. Though I wonder if this is a carrier side issue.

It's odd that phone says not in service and does not direct calls to voicemail.

Update: Just completed lost/stolen trick with 10min wait and multiple restarts. No avail.

Account status went from active to lost to active again.

I agree about your wondering. Have a go at the Change SIM with what you have and see what it says. It'll probably come back with invalid SIM but who knows.

Currently trying lost/stolen trick. Will report back.

Tried my SIM in another phone same issue.

Tried Bell SIM in my phone. Phone works

Did you get in the moderator queue?

Maybe check the last 4 digits of the SIM in the self-serve to see if it's different. Maybe even type in your SIM there as though changing it. Then re-insert and restart. Maybe.

Probably have tried this but..pull out and reinsert sim?..lost/stolen trick?

@cregan

Can you try your SIM card in another phone?  To determine if it is a hardware issues versus Public mobile service issue?

You may could try the lost/stolen phone trick: (Seems to re-set your SIM/plan)

1.  Report your phone lost/stolen in self service account.  Logout.  Wait few minutes.  Login.  Report your phone found.
