iphone compatibility 3G

Hi, I notice most plans are 3G data but from what I am reading iPhone 12 doesn't support 3G any longer so I guess many other vendors will follow now that 5G is available.  Will Public Mobile provide 4G/LTE service at some point or will it remain 3G ?  I am looking for a new phone so I am wondering if service will be updated or will I need to leave Public Mobile sooner than later due to incompatibility?  Thanks

Some information has been left out. Public Mobile service is on both the HSPA and LTE networks.   The "3g" network is also capable of carrier text and data, and is actually required for voice service.  There are also some custoemrs who have full speed LTE plans that were offered in the past.

Hi!

I am PM user with an iPhone 12 Pro.

Having used other providers with this Phone, I get service anywhere from 5G to 3G. iPhone 12 does in fact support 3G!

@clasha straight from Apple's website:

https://www.apple.com/ca/iphone-12/specs/

  • UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1700/2100, 1900, 2100 MHz)

3G is only mandatory for voice calls. You can still use LTE for data, even on "3G" plans.

The iPhone 12 is fully backwards compatible all the way back to 2G.

from what I read online, Iphone 12 will work on 3G

Here is a quote from one of Apple specialists: "The iPhone 12 will connect to 5G LTE when it is available. If not, then it will move on to 4G LTE and even to 3G if necessary. Yes, it is all automatic."

Some people complain that they can't force 3G on the iPhone, but it was said that "It is a software setting determined by your carrier, not by Apple"

PM uses Bell and Telus towers which are 4G but throttles the speed to 3G.

For most daily usage, you won't notice any difference.  If you stream 4K video or high quality music then you may experience buffering.
