Will the Motorola G6 Play work with Public Mobile?

Hi Everyone,

I tried the phone checker under getting started and it does not list my phone, the closest is the G7 Play.

@G6As long as your have the North American version you should be fine.. if in doubt use a SIM card from the Telus network (Telus, Koodo or Public Mobile) to test.

You can check phone compatibility here: https://publicmobile.ca/en/on/get-started

If your phone is not listed, it should still work as long as it is a North American phone with a removeable sim card.

Best of luck and welcome to Public Mobile Smiley Happy

Its not always this simple, i had to buy a specific phone to work with Freeom Mobile for example.

Do you know what bands PM uses?

As already mentioned I already tried to look it up there.

Re: Will the Motorola G6 Play work with Public Mobile?

@G6  Telus network 3G & LTE (which Public uses) consists of
3G Network HSDPA 850 /900 /1900 /2100
4G Network LTE 800 / 900 / 1800 /2100 2600

The issue with current Freedom is with Band 66 for the fastest speed which Telus doesn't own or use. Older Freedom phones had to do with AWS bands which is mostly a non issue now as most phones have them.

Just remember because it is compatible doesn't mean it is optimal..

Fair enough, i am just curious if the bands PM uses are covered by my phone before i buy a sim card and sign up.

@GinYVR, what you quoted reads more like what a typical phone may have in terms of band support.  For 3G Public Mobile runs on 850 and 1900 MHz.  For LTE, it's 850, 1900, 1700/2100, 700, 2600 MHz.  More commonly, LTE is referred by band numbers, so look for bands 2,4,5,7,12,13,17,29.  For simplicity, I suggest looking for band 4.  If that's present, many other bands will also likely be supported.  @G6 ,FYI.

Thanks Smiley Happy

From Costco's website the G6 Play has

  • 4G LTE (B1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/13/14/17/25/26/29/30/66)
  • UMTS/HSPA+ (B1, 2, 4, 5, 8)
  • GSM (850, 900, 1800, 1900)

Then that'll be fine.

I've memorized a few numbers from this reference post. 4G 4, 5, 12 and 3G 2, 5.
