SIM card doesn't fit into my phone

tekla

I checked and my phone is supposed to be compatible.  My old card doesn't have a chip, it has  gold bars on the back that connect to the phone.  The old car says it is micro, but it is notched.  It is a SD CO2G card.  What now?  I have already registered and set up payment but can't use my phone.  Was I sent the wrong card? or is my phone not compatible with the service.  It is an old LG P500h.

Great I'll use this for future phone purchases

Thanx to everyone for the help.  I'm up and running.  Rogers unlocked my phone and I'm good to go.

We caught that error a little earlier.

So, unfortunately, you need a new phone. It must be unlocked and function of these frequencies: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telus_Mobility or https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Getting-Started/How-do-I-know-if-my-phone-will-work-o...

Hi Luddite

The phone might very well be compatible.  The phone in question is a P500h.  This phone being an old model was made during the days when manufactuers made many different variants for different regions of the world.

I believe the "h" in the model number might be key.  Based on a quick good search, the P500h variant was sold before by Telus in Canada.

In the past, LG has liked to  include on letter difference at the end of the model number.  A slightly more recent example had the Optimus 2x P990 that worked on Telus (if unlocked) but Wind in Canada sold the Optimus 2x P990g that worked on Wind but not Telus.

Where did you check compatibility?

The search on this website only tells you if the phone is black listed or not. For checking the right bands https://willmyphonework.net/ is regarded quite reliable by the community here.

Having said that, I have a hard time finding any information on supported bands by the phone you specified, even the LG website doesn't make it easy to find. Considering that you are coming from Rogers' network (which still runs the older 2G technology which has never been supported by the Telus / Public Mobile network) - is it possible that your phone does not support 3G and 4G bands?

Well, quicker is not always better. Robot LOL I ended up looking up the wrong phone! P500 rather than the P500h.

Thank you, yes it said it would work on the 3G network.  So I have changed my setting to not use the 2G network only and will wait for Rogers to unlock the phone and see what happens.

When I checked the phone compatibility and entered my IMEI # it said it was compatible or I wouldn't have proceeded with picking my plan etc and setting up payment.  I will get Rogers to unlock the phone and see what happens.   I don't really want to have to buy a new phone, it's only for emergencies, I just want the very basic $10 mth plan.

Check your our phone with that website, it’s the best tool we have. The IMEI checker is useless unfortunately

Guys, the phone model is LG Optimus One P500h and it is compatible with the 3G bands.

I remember I had an old LG p500h, so decided to dust it off and test it and see if it works on Public Mobile.

Initially it did not.  I had to go into "Wireless and network settings", then "Mobile network settings",  and uncheck "Use only 2G networks".  Then "select automatically" under Network operators.  Then I was able to make a phone call.

Took a screenshot to confirm that it works on the LG p500h

New phones will be unlocked (or you can get a free unlock code), but old phones don't automatically unlock.

You can probably get an unlock code off ebay for a few dollars.

@tekla The card with the gold bars is a SD card that is a storage and not a sim card. The sim card will go in a different slot.
