Picture text won't download

I have an unlocked sonim xp3800 and I can't receive picture messages. Everything else works great. I have checked the APN settings as well as making sure data was turned on and nothing works. Have done factory reset and network reset as well.

most phones nowadays should be able to send recieved picture messages. just try resetting network settings restart the phone and make sure your data is on. turn off wifi to make sure there's no interference

for your case I would try to send a picture to see if my phone is the problem or if the problem was originally generated by the sender.

best regards,

are you using any app other than Massages to send your massage. for example, I had a problem like this before and I resolved it by using the massage application that was preinstalled on my phone by the manufacturer of the phone instead of Facebook Messenger or some others apps that you could install from the store. you should use the massage app that came with the phone ROM, because some apps tend to send the picture in different formats or pictures.

Ok. How about clearing the MVNO fields. The rest should be fine.

Is there a system (software) update that you can do for the phone.

@Dwhy  Are you trying to add a duplicate APN?

Not sure why it's not working. If you can backup you contacts maybe worthwhile doing a factory reset and start over in the hopes that it will fix there issue.

Hope this helps.

Unfortunately I have a Sonim XP3800 (flip phone)

@geopublic

it gives me the same error 😞

@Dwhy  leave the APN Type field blank or just enter internet,mms

Try this.  Select  Public Mobile. Only for iPhone.

Will generate an APN file on your phone. Find it, install it.

I can't take a screenshot because the screen refects badly. But here is the info

Name: Mobile internet

APN: sp.mb.com

MMSC: http://aliasredirect.net/proxy/mb/mmsc

Mms proxy: 74.49.0.18

Mms port: 80

Mcc: 302

MNC: 220

Apn type: default,mms,agps,supl,fota,hipri

Apn protocol: IPv4

Apn roaming protocol: IPv4

MVNO type: GID

MVNO value: 4D4F

@Dwhy  Try this:

  1. Change MMS proxy: from 74.49 .0.18 to  mmsproxy.mobility.ca
  2. Change MMS port from 80 to 8799

If you have data turned on it should work,all your other entries are correct.

I don't have mmsc proxy! Is that the issue maybe?

@Dwhy  Yes. Can you post o screenshot of your current APN settings, maybe we can figure out a workaround.

Edit: MMSC Proxy was a typo MMS Proxy is correct.

I would suggest that would be a minimum requirement. It's a lot like your home router where you set your devices to go through your router. Give it a whirl.

My mms limit is set to 1000

@Dwhy

  1. RESET NETWORK SETTINGS
    1. From Home screen, select Menu ( ) > Settings
    ( ) > Network & Internet ( ).
    2. Select Reset network settings.
    It reset all the network settings including Wi-Fi,
    Mobile data and Bluetooth.
  2. Make sure Preferred Network is set to Auto
  3. Create an APN exactly as you see below:

Is there an option called "Update PRL" inside your system settings? If yes, try that.

Also, you said data is on but to clarify, can you use data for internet?

@Dwhy  Go into your APN settings and blan out everything under APN Type, save your changes and restart your phone. Test mms and let us know if it works.

How old is the phone?  Take it back to where you purchased it from if it's still under warranty.

@Dwhy  try this

ACCESS MESSAGING SETTINGS
1. From the home screen, select the Messaging app.
2. Select the  Menu icon, then select Settings.

  • ACCESS/EDIT MESSAGE NOTIFICATIONS: Select Notifications.
  •  ACCESS SMS SETTINGS AND MESSAGE CENTER NUMBER: Scroll to and select Text (SMS) messages settings.
  •  ACCESS MMS SETTINGS: Scroll to and select the desired Multimedia (MMS) messages settings.

If you replied yes to my post, then it looks like your phone is the issue (perhaps hardware?) and not the MMS service.
