Network not available

Shrt

My father bought a new unlocked Kyocera DuraForce XD E6790 phone and when we put his SIM in and add the APN it gives a 'Network not available' error. He has an older Kyocera phone that it works just fine in. I put my SIM in and it detects I have call forwarding enabled (which I do) but no network connectivity. I also tried putting my work SIM in (Telus) and added the Telus APN which it detected voicemails and again no network. Is there a setting we're missing or could the phone possibily be locked?

Thanks,

@DanZap for future reference, this is bad advice.  The checker on PM's site is horribly inaccurate for compatibility, and has a long history of giving false positives.  It is still a useful check to verify that your phone is not blacklisted, but ignore anything it tells you about compatbility, and instead use https://www.willmyphonework.net.  This is the community preferred advice and leads to far fewer heartaches from people thinking their phones will work but don't.

Additionally, I have an iphone 5s operating on old ios 7 software so I needed to visit unlockit.co.nz to install the appropriate APN settings - I couldn't do it manually.

Sounds like a locked phone. Try looking into the settings and see if there is a provider linked with it, or dial and call *611 to the current provider and have it unlocked.

@Shrt

I check the specs of Kyocera DuraForce XD E6790 on gsmarena.

https://www.gsmarena.com/kyocera_duraforce_xd-7699.php

It got all the frequencies required by PM.

Network reset may get the data going again similar to LG phone.

I am running out of idea.  But it worth a try.

What message appears on the phone after rebooting with the PM SIM installed?

Does his SIM work in your phone?
