Is LG A275 compatible with the pm network?

Hello,

Someone knows if the LG A275 is compatible with pm's network?

Thanks!

Daniel

You could try www.canadagsm.ca. They are quite clear which carriers can be used with each phone.

I have not bought from them because I usually scrounge free cast offs from friends for my 'emergency' backup phone. For use on Public Mobile I get someone's old Telus or Koodo phone.

Currently the cheapest new phone from TELUS/Koodo is an Alcatel A392A $70 flip phone; no one seems to be carrying the little bar phones.

Good luck in your hunt.

Thanks guys. Will keep looking.

Anyone has a suggestion for a simple bar phone that would work? I don't want it to be a smartphone.

Is just a backup phone.

Thanks again,

Daniel

@dbrime

I use an LG A341 its a run of the mil flip phone in the same general series as teh LG A275

Hi. I checked if that LG A275 phone is Comparable

Answer, NO

PM requires Handsets with 3G 850/1900 MHZ as Bare Minimum for Service

Check out Telus and Koodo for pre-paid, or pre-owned, phones. I understand all Telus/Koodo phones work on Public Mobile. The price seems to be $60-$100. Some are "smartphones" but you can still use them just for Talk, and when you are near a wifi location surf the web for free as well.

Consider texting as well as it only adds $5/30 days. My sister never had a cell phone until 2 years ago when she jumped in with both feet and now texts more than 10/day! 🙂

@dbrime,

I don't think the LG A275 will function because it seem to be only a 2G phone. You need at least 3G.

Public Mobile is owned by Telus. To get a new smartphone that will work on Public Mobile, you have to purchase a phone unlocked or locked to Telus/Koodo.

I suggest you Telus (online only), Apple, Google Nexus, Microsoft, Staples, Best buy, Costco and Walmart

Telus/Koodo/Public Mobile frequency are :

3G UMTS/HSDPA = (850MHz / 1900MHz)

4G LTE Band 4 = (2100MHz / 1700MHz)

4G LTE-Advanced = 700MHz (LTE-A not yet launched by Telus/Bell)

"How do I know if my phone will work on the Public Mobile network?[ Edited ]

Public Mobile works on following frequencies:

  • For 3G use (UMTS/HSPA): 850MHz/1900MHz bands
  • For 4G/LTE use: 1700MHz/2100MHz bands
  • For 4G/LTE use: 700 MHz band

Which means most of the 3G,4G HSPA/ LTE phones that are compatible with these frequencies will work on Public Mobile. If your phone is locked to specific carrier, you’ll have to get it unlocked.

Phones compatible with Telus, Koodo, Bell, Virgin will work on Public Mobile network. All 3G, 4G phones from Rogers, Fido and ChatR are compatible and will work on the Public Mobile network.
