I have a Samsung Galaxy note 8 (SM-N950F, international version) and the website says that it'll work with any gsm carrier. So I have a question - is public mobile a gsm carrier? What frequencies does it use?

Thanks. It could have something to do with the area then, although that doesn't explain why this is recent and why my HSPA slowdowns happen even in the middle of the night. The reason for me wondering about DC-HSPA has to do wtih the speeds normally being in the range of 15 to 35Mbps to suddenly being no more than 5 or 6Mbps starting a few weeks ago, regardless of the time of day or night.

662 and 687 should both be active for Band 2 DC-HSPA.

@sheytoon

I'm wondering if you have any insight on this. I'm noticing a severe degradation of data quality on the HSPA network, both in ping time and in actual speeds, no matter the time of day.  Do you know if it's possible that Bell/Telus could possibly be turning off the DC component of the network (I'm in Ontario)?

Are Telus (and Public Mobile) using 2600MHz Band 7 yet?

Wikipedia reports it's "being deployed" but it cites a dead link and I can't find any other sources to confirm.

My phone is currently connected to band 7 lte+.

 I should have been more clear, I see now how that could have been confusing.

@krisyarmak123 That phone has the required 3G bands but limited LTE coverage.

It's from GSM Arena I believe and it's all the capabilities of the OP's Galaxy Note 8.

@ChuckYeah

What is that list referring to? And what's the source?

If it's a list of frequencies supposedly used by the Telus network, it's wrong. The Telus/Bell network DOES NOT include GSM / 2G frequencies. The Telus /Bell network is 3G and up.

The only network that supports GSM  2G in Canada (until next year) is Rogers and their subsidiaries and affiliates (Fido, ChatR, cityphone/Zoomer, SpeakOut/PetroCan Mobility)

Your Samsung Galaxy note 8 SM-N950F should work with PM 3G B2 and B5 for voice calls and LTE B4
