Does the Geotel Note (China phone) smartphone work with PM?

I have a Geotel Note smartphone that I have been using with Rogers without issue and I just got a PM sim and activated a $30 talk, text and data plan but I cant get any service. Does this phone work with PM?

@mermantraut please see my reply to @Han_15 immediately above--Public Mobile's IMEI checker is not very good.  However, previous responders have correctly pointed out that your phone does NOT have the required 850MHz and 1900MHz 3G frequencies and is not compatible with Public Mobile (nor Koodo, Telus, Bell, Virgin, Lucky, Freedom).  It can only be used with Rogers, Fido, or Chatr in Canada, until such time as their 2G GSM network gets shut down.

Hi @Han_15

Just so you know, this is not the correct guidance.  Unfortunately, the IMEI checker on Public Mobile's site is not at all reliable for compatibility.  You should still tell people to check there but only to ensure their phone has not been reported as lost or stolen (which will prevent it from being used with PM even if technically compatible).  For compatbility, please tell people to use https://www.willmyphonework.net, and if the desired model is not listed there, to post here and somoene will look up the specs and help confrm manually.

Telus network does not support GSM.  PM use Telus netowrk.

In Canada, only Rogers supports GSM.  Telus started to use SIM phone much later than Rogers.  Telus decided not to supported the out dated GSM and started with 3G phone.

Now, you know the history of SIM card phone support in Canada.

I have found in other searching that these sites are inconsistent. If you can find agreement in a few places then maybe you have something. But if those few places are saying no and one place says yes then your chances are kinda minimal. And you're initially finding some difficulty. So there's your clue.

Public Mobile has never supported 2G.  Generally phones designed purely for the Chinese market don't work here.

Read my post just above your post.  Your phone does not have 3G 850/1900 supported by Telus network.

Rogers network supports GSM, 3G, LTE. Telus network does not support GSM.  This may be the reason why your phone works on Rogers network and not Telus network.

I checked the spec of your phone at https://www.gadgetsnow.com/mobile-phones/Geotel-Note.

It supports only 3G bands 2100 / 900 MHz.  Telus uses 3G 850/1900.

@mermantraut

If your phone is not listed on the above website, you will need to check yourself....

Here is a pinned thread about checking your phone model:

Need to check the bandwidths, etc.

Here a website to check your phone's specs:  http://gsmarena.com
