Another Tethering Thread

Kinnay

Hey guys,

First of all, I searched dozens of thread about tethering not working and none of the proposed solution worked.

My spouse and I can't use tethering since we moved to PM.

My spouse's phone used to be able to tether with Fido with her OnePlus One but now she can't with PM.

I can't tether either with my Google Pixel. Only PM sim cards have ever been inserted in that phone.

We tried tethering to my Chromebook and to her Windows 10 laptop. I also tried to tether to my Windows 7 work laptop.

Could it be a problem with the SIM card?

Wifi tethring and USB tethering isn't working.

Data works on the phone normally.

Here are my APN setting which I found here in the forum.

Thank you for replying.  I guess as long as I have 4G; it is good then.  No need to do any change...

1. Why the settings of APNs are different on my phones?

2. Why I don't see LTE but 4G on my phones?

The APNs are set up by the manufactuer in the software of the phone.  Different software versions can mean the access points being set up differently.

"4g" is just a marketing term.  It could mean LTE or it could mean HSPA.  It depends on how the software on the phone has been programmed.

I have two lines with PM. One on an international S7 G930FD and one on a leEco Max 2.  The S7 has band 4 for LTE and I have to enter the below info. to get "4G" icon on the phone.

APN type: several codes....

MVNO type: GID

MVNO value: 4D4F

The other Max 2 phone, I have to leave them to Empty and None to get 4G.

Questions:

1. Why the settings of APNs are different on my phones?

2. Why I don't see LTE but 4G on my phones?

I know that you already solved your issue but I had a simpler fix that worked for me.  I deleted the two separate APN's and manually re-entered as a single APN.  Success.   (I added "dun" just to be safe)

If this solution also works for you, please bravo to let others know.

@Kinnay thank you for posting that!  I hope it's helpful to others that are having issue with tethering/hotspotting!

Those 2 APN, I was the one who imputed them, GOT Directly from my Handset, so as to provide PM Clientele the info necessary

I finally found a fix.

I saw 2 posts here suggesting something similar,

One required root and the other didn't work.

You need to connect your phone and do a command with the adb tool.

adb shell

settings put global tether_dun_required 0

That's is. Wifi and USB tethering now works.

Changing the mvno value didn't change anything unfortunately.
Changing the APN type did something, data wasn't working at all anymore lol.

Thanks for your input.
