APN settings

Just joined PM and am trying to change my APN settings on an iPhone 6+

I changed the settings as per http://www.unlockit.co.nz/mobilesettings/settings.php?id=1019 but the following fields keep automatically re-populating after I delete them (I ported from Fido, if that is relevant):

Visual Voicemail APN: sp.koodo.com

MMS APN: sp.koodo.com

MMSC: http://aliasredirect.net/proxy/koodo/mmsc

MMS Proxy: 74.49.0.18:80

Personal Hotspot: sp.koodo.com

Am I doing somethign wrong here?  One thing to note is that data IS working.  For the first 10 min it would only connect via 3G but it literlly just went to LTE 10 seconds ago.  Which means I won't have to ask my second quesiton of why I was only on 3G!

So I leave the above as is?

To clarify in this thread, what i wrote in another thread. I am trying to follow these steps, that are outlned in MESSAGE 2 of this thread.

When i am in Access Point Names, I am able to follow MESSAGE 1 of this thread (APN) because there are options to input every setting listed there. but as far as MESSAGE 2 (TETHERING APN), I do not really see WHERE I can go to input every setting listed there.

If you look at the steps MESSAGE 2 is telling me to set... i am not setting them, not because i am setting it wrong or dont know how... but i dont see WHERE  i can set them. These steps (that  i have cut and paste here from MESSAGE 2 and placed between 2 rows of stars)... simply... I have to find WHERE to go on the phone to set them.

My phone is samsung gallaxy s3.

Hello,

I googled the following: samsung s3 mms problems.

A quick perusal of the results brought me to a page from forum.androidcentral.com. There were a number of posts about the incompatibility of MMS and the S3, and how it was solved.

I suggest googling the problem until you find a fix.

Best of success!

Hi sarah,

It makes perfect sense to me, but, unfortunately, I'm at a loss to help resolve your situation. The APN settings should enable MMS, but, for some reasons, they don't have the desired result.

All that I can think of at this point, assuming that you entered the correct settings, is an incompatibility with a texting app not native to your phone. Would it possible to uninstall it/them to see if the situation resolves itself?

I'm trying to engage in process of elimination to solve the problem at hand.

Though I have not done so, have you googled your phone to see if it has a problematic history of not supporting MMS even though the service is being provided by the carrier?

The reason i am trying to fix these settings is to be able to send pictures in txt message. (mms). This isnt working. I have plan E (no data, but unlimited picture texting)..Does this make sense?

Deleted by Martin.

Hi sarah,

If I'm 99% certain about something, I say nothing because posters deserve information that is 100% correct. In your case, I replied to your previous posts, and so it would be rude of me to not respond to the most recent one. At this point, I cannot think of a solution regarding settings.

It may be worth your while to once again enter APN in the search engine, and read the other posts. In so doing, you may find a post dealing not only with what settings you need, but also how to enter them.

Good luck, and cheers back to you!

yes  i found this page too

http://www.samsung.com/ae/support/skp/faq/435820

but it has no connection to the TETHERING SETTINGS that @makkahn28 is saying to amend (message  2 in this thread), as far as i can tell.

Also i have plan E (zero data), so this Tethering and Mobile Hotspot setting, i am not sure is of any relevance to me.I use the WiFi in my house to have internet on the phone.

cheers!

hi sarah,

My phone charged faster than expected.

Google the following: Galaxy S3 smartphone tethering settings

I just did the above, and I came across an article with a photo of the settings plus text describing tethering and hotspots.

Cheers.

@sarah,

Yes, it's MMS Proxy.

The C was a typo error.

sarah
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

i checked again, maybe this has something to do with it.

in your step it says:

MMSC proxy: 74.49.0.18

in my phone for that step, it says

MMS proxy

(i went ahead and set it to 74.49.0.18 like you said)

but maybe this has something to do with it...

thank you for giving me the information

i did everything exactly like you said but it still does not work.

I will try it again, and again, to make sure i am following every step (it seems i am!)

if it still does not work i will have to ask again?

Cyber
Mayor / Maire

@sarah,

If you do not have a DATA plan, the data consumed by Facebook, Viber, etc. is useless to monitor.

On a prepaid service, you cannot use a service that you don't pay in advance.

I gave you all the informations to have functional MMS.

sarah
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

i am not talking about the FREE DATA for MMS, i am saying that when i ENABLED MOBILE DATA, OTHER DATA started to get tabulated (Viber, Android OS, Google Play Services, Messenger, Facebook, Samsung Push Service), and now it says that i have used 32.43KB of data on those things (even tho i was not using any of those apps, i was just testing to see if MMS works).

Do you or anyone know how to get my free unlimited MMS to work?

Cyber
Mayor / Maire

@sarah,

How do you think MMS are sent and received ?

MMS is using the DATA network.

The DATA used to sent/receive MMS are not counted. This is FREE data.

Public Mobile is a prepaid service. You won't have any suprise !

As an aside, the plan i have is Plan E.

UNLIMITED picture msging but ZERO DATA.

i do not want internet data to start adding on (that i have to pay for) as i try to send a picture (which is free)

Even if i am NOT using internet in any way, it seems if i turn on MOBILE DATA, even for a minute, KBs of data start adding up, despite me actively ignoring all internet related anything.

sarah
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

indeed i  did select that "internet + MMS"

i did activate mobile data when testing MMS.

I do not have a mobile data limit

Cyber
Mayor / Maire

@sarah,

You need to select "Internet + MMS" for your APN type.

The MMSC link is not a functional external web link.

You need to activate your "Mobile Data" to be able to send/receive MMS.

If configured, try to disable your "Mobile data limit".

I have an ANDROID. I followed the steps, it does not work.

I have two guesses as to why.

The last step of step 2 is this

APN type: default,supl,mms,dun

On my phone, (samsung gallaxy S3), the APN type options were:

Internet + MMS

Internet

MMS

(i checked the first one)

So, this step is different from your instruction options.

Also, fyi, this step:

MMSC: http://aliasredirect.net/proxy/mb/mmsc

though i did input exactly as told, i clicked on this just to see, and it leads to a 404 page not found.

I do not know why it is not working, but these are 2 things i thought to share.

I really need to send pictures in text please help

@sarah,

You need to configure your APN settings to be able to send pictures (MMS) and navigate on internet (DATA). Remeber to turn ON your "Mobile Data".

Android APN step-by-step configuration :

Lithium-OrangeBullet-Jan23-00.jpgStep 1

Android

Settings > More / More Networks / Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names > New APN setting (or a plus sign)

Click here for Android APN Screen Shot

Lithium-OrangeBullet-Jan23-00.jpgStep 2

You will need to input the following information :

Name: Public Mobile
APN: sp.mb.com
Proxy: Leave blank
Port: Leave blank
Username: Leave blank
Password: Leave blank
Server: Leave blank
MMSC: http://aliasredirect.net/proxy/mb/mmsc
MMS proxy: 74.49.0.18
MMS port: 80
MCC: 302
MNC: 220
Authentication type: Leave blank
APN type: default,supl,mms,dun

Lithium-OrangeBullet-Jan23-00.jpgStep 3

Select Save/Done. Select Public Mobile to connect to the Public Mobile network.
