Hello there

I have recently purchased an phone from abroad. I notice that the APN is always set to Telus's and cannot be changed.   Is this something can be fixed or pushed from your end ?

@maribee Contact the moderators and ask them for the APN file to push your APN settings for you.  There are 2 ways to contact the Moderator Team:

  • Faster response- Get help with your account the easy way by starting a conversation with our virtual assistant, SIMon. It’ll take you to relevant help articles, or if it’s something more urgent, it can help you submit a ticket to the Moderator Team. Click here to get started.
  • Slower- Alternatively, you can send a private message to the Moderators by clicking here. You’ll need to be logged in to your Community account for the link to work.

Once connected to Simon, you will be asked to log in again with your community user name and password.  Please do, this allows you to continue and send your message.
- Check your private message sent box (click on the envelope top right of your screen) to make sure the message was sent.

- Keep an eye on the envelope top right of your screen.  The mods answer will show up there.  When it does, you will be asked to verify your self service account, with your password and login. Doing so allows the process to continue. Stay safe.

@hendryagus based on what I read its Linux based. The freedom mobile SIM allows you access to your APN settings on Android phones. It seems that it doesn't need to be activated. It may work for yours. This is the first time I even heard about your phone. Do you put your PM SIM into anther phone to see if it works properly?

That is correct. It is running its own OS similar to Andriod. I tried using Bell and Telus and they work fine. I could not change the APN either but I guess they were correct to begin with. The issue is when i use subsidiary account like Koodo or Public, it keeps on using Telus.

@hendryagus is this your phone? https://impulse.technology Do you have another phone handy? Does you PM SIM work properly in that one?

No @hendryagus , If you insert a new or used freedom SIM into your phone it gives you more access to apn settings. You can also try manually selecting another provider . Shutting down your phone, taking your PM SIM out, putting it back in and restarting your phone.

@hendryagus  Try the following:

  1. Go into settings Network &  Internet -> Mobile Network -> advanced.
  2. Turn off Automatically select network and manually chose Public Mobile
  3. Go into APN settings select the Telus APN and change the APN  from sp.telus.com to sp.mb.com. that's it don't change anything else.
  4. Hit the 3 dots and see if you can save the change. If not hit the back arrow (top left)
  5. Test if data is working

Report back.

@hendryagus what's the make and model of your phone? It has been mentioned here that a freedom mobile SIM allows you to change the apn settings.
