@johnpublic Wi-Fi calling doesn't use a downloadable app. It is a service provided by the carrier (a service that Public doesn't have).

@Robcourt  My guess is that PM will offer WiFi calling when 7G is available. 😁

Truthfully noone really knows but judging by the pace of change my guess is that it won't be until a very long time if at all.

@austinhuang

TextNow is a Canadian company from Waterloo

@BearFBI It seems like Freedom does have WiFi calling on prepaid, my bad. (Though they're not a Big 3 so they could do things differently, yeah.)

No, Rogers doesn't have extended coverage on prepaid. It's postpaid only. Note that EC ≠ roaming.

Koodo has WiFi calling only on postpaid, not prepaid, in line with Fido. Not sure about Virgin.

@austinhuang...I've had a free Canadian TextNow number for (at least) 2 years. Works great while spending winter in Mexico...as long as wifi is available. People can call/text my TextNow number and I can call home....FREE !

@austinhuang I belive Freedom Mobile has WiFi Calling on their prepaied plans. It all depends on the carrier.

Extended coverage is available to all prepaied plans. Even rogers prepaied has it.

PM dosent have Wifi calling because it is another way to differentiate Koodo from PM.

Correction: TextNow is US number only. (It seems like they allowed Canadian numbers now)

TextMeUp and TextPlus do have Canadian numbers though.

Similar to Extended Coverage, WiFi calling is for POSTPAID plans only, at least in Canada.

PM is a 3rd tier cell service provider...that means no frills here. As suggested by @Triguy , consider using free voip apps like TextNow. You get a free Cdn number so you can send/receive calls/texts while using wifi. Seems like free wifi is everywhere these days.

WhatsApp is another good one for free calling / texting using wifi.

Otherwise no wifi calling available here...for now.

@Robcourt sadly PM does not have WiFi Calling. PM is a 3rd teir service so I wouldn't expect it to come in the near future.

It would be nice to have WiFi calling but I can live without it. Apps like Hangouts just don't cut it. Wifi Calling via your carrier vs VoIP apps are a lot different.

PM does not offer it and it is unknown if they will ever have it.  You can use apps like Textnow and WhatsApp.
