During the sim card activation process you have 2 choices regarding a phone number. You can choose a new number from a list that PM provides or if you want a specific number you can port in a phone number from another provider.

For a number to be assigned to your account, it needs to be one that Telus Mobility/Public Mobile has access to and it cannot already have been asssigned to another customer. If you are about the sign up, you can search for the last 4 digits of the phone number during activation if you're looking for a close match.
