"Porting" PREVIOUS Texts

AmberDawn

Hello,

I will be transferring my Public phone number to a new SIM card, I do no have the prior one anymore. What I am hoping to do is access my previous texts (most importantly)/contacts and my voicemail.

Please advise if there is a way for me to do so!! I am hoping Public can simply forward them to the new SIM/device.

Thanks (in advance) for Your Time and replies!

Change Your SIM Card

the SIM change functionality has been re-enabled in My Account, now with an additional security step: 2 factor authentication to further protect against SIM card fraud.In order to change the SIM card associated with your account, you must now verify your request through a one-time security code that will be sent via SMS or email.To change your SIM card, please follow the below steps:

  1. Log into your My Account
  2. Go to Plan and Add-Ons > Change SIM Card
  3. Enter your new SIM card number
  4. Select where you would like your 6-digit security verification code to be sent to. You can choose to have the code sent to your email, or via SMS to your phone number. If you do not have access to your phone or cannot receive SMS, please select the email option.
  5. Check your email or phone for your security code, and input the code into the page
  6. Click “Verify Code”

Please note: after 5 failed attempts to verify your security code, your account will be locked, and you will need to have your account unlocked and your SIM card manually updated by an agent by submitting a ticket link Here,.

  1. Once you have verified your code, click “submit” to complete your SIM card change, and you’re all set !!

and Reboot your phone.

what is mean for Rebooting the phone means to turn off your phone about 2 minutes and turn it back on.

I would suggest backup and restore app, you can setup periodic backup to Google drive or drive other storage and even if you lose your phone you would still have access to last backed up calls and texts

@AmberDawn  PM does not have a back up of your text or contact.  I assume you asking this because you lost you phone.

Not sure if you have setup automatic backup.   On iOS, you might have some backup from the iCloud, on Android, Google.  When you setup the new phone, maybe you can check if you have a backup set right before you lost your phone.  The backup set might have the contact and text and you can restored them on your new phone

@AmberDawn

Everything should remain the same if you are just switching the SIM card on the same phone.

You might want to do a backup if you are worried.

@AmberDawn

Contacts (at least not usually), text messages, and voicemail are not stored on your SIM card. Once you switch over to your new SIM, the contacts and text messages will still be on your device if you are still using the same phone.  As for voicemail messages, those are stored on on Public Mobile's systems.

If the reason for you needing a new SIM card is because you've lost your phone, unfortuantely, Public Mobile cannot assist you in this matter. Hopefully, you have any informaton that you still need backed up.

Just go into self service and choose Change Sim Card. Everything else on your phone will remain the same.
