Use SIM card for a while before transferring my old Telus number

Hi,

I currently have a phone on Telus.

I just bought a Public Mobile SIM card. I would like to try the PM service without transferring my current Telus phone number. I would choose a new phone number when I activate the card, then use the service for a few days, then if I'm satisfied with the service, I would transfer my current Telus number.

Is this something I can do?

Thanks.

@patc  Yes, in fact that is the best way to test the PM service for 30 days before porting your number from Telus.

Public and Telus share the same network and portng your number from Telus if you decide to switch is very easy to do.

I have to say that @kselmak said it very well....and thats what i advise people to do.

@patc

That is actually the best way to do it, unless you are under pressure to transfer your number today.

It's also much easier to troubleshoot if any issues popup without having also port (and lack of incoming calls and possibly texts during the port) to deal with. You get to try it without losing anything tied to your old service, much much less headache if you change your mind too.

I always advise it to everyone

Thank you for these!

@patc just keep your Telus account active to port. The port will close it once its completed. Stay safe.

Here's 4 articles on activation and porting and the Refer a friend reward  if you need them:

@patc   Yes you can definitely do that but once you have decided to port in your number from Telus, you will need to submit a ticket to moderators via SIMon ? mark bottom right of your screen and type in "Port Request".  Moderators will facilitate the porting for you.  Welcome to PM 😊
