Service provider name on phone

My husband and I both moved to Public Mobile today.  We were activated shortly. My phone is showing Public Mobile as provider however my husband's phone is still showing the old provider's name even though both the sim cards were switched out.  Is there any reason for that?

Check the self serve account to make sure status is active.  Try restarting the phone.

If you're speaking of network name displayed on some phones in the notification area, that usually is an indication of the network that you are currently connected to, an not necessarily the carrier that you are with.

Which carrier name is it showing?  Ensure that the network selection is set to automatic.

Are both phones the same model?  Depending on software, not all devices show subbrands such as Fido, Chatr, Virgin, Public ,etc. and will only show names similar to Bell, Rogers, Telus.

What model phone does your husband have? His phone likely needs a network reset if the other stuff you tried hasn't worked. It'd help to know the phone type so I can post relevant steps. Thanks and good luck!

Re: Service provider name on phone

I had already done both of those before I wrote my question here.  As a retired IT specialist and Help Desk Agent I always check all settings and restart.  Any other suggestions please or is it okay that it still shows Koodo as I have received emails from Koodo saying they received cancellation for both numbers!

@Selba  You didn't answer if both phones are the same model. The emails from Koodo are just notification emails that your numbers were ported. If you have an Android phone just dial *#*#4636#*#* select phone information and make sure you are connecting to the correct provider for voice and data. If your phones are both working including data then you can ignore the provider info.

@Selba  On the Samsung S5 go into settings -> Network & Internet -> Mobile Network and see if you can select Public Mobile. Also make sure the APN settings are pointing to Public Mobile and not Koodo.

These are the Public Mobile APN settings you need:

Name: Public Mobile
APN: sp.mb.com
Proxy: Leave blank
Port: Leave blank
Username: Leave blank
Password: Leave blank
Server: Leave blank
MMSC: http://aliasredirect.net/proxy/mb/mmsc
MMSC proxy: 74.49.0.18
MMS port: 80
MCC: 302
MNC: 220
Authentication type: Leave blank
APN type: default,mms,agps,supl,fota,hipri
APN protocol: IPv4
APN roaming protocol: IPv4
Bearer: Unspecified
MVNO type: GID
MVNO value: 4D4F

Don't forget to save these settings and then select this APN as the active one.

If you need to know where to find the settings:
Android
Settings > More / More Networks / Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names > New APN setting (or a plus sign)

Re: Service provider name on phone

When I check network where you told me it is saying Telus, so is the fact that it shows Koodo on the notification area on top of screen that important?  When I do go to selection of network the options are Telus, BMC, 302490 or Rogers.  I am not sure how to get into the APN settings.
