Canadian providers had port prevention program to make sure the person who requests a number to be ported out is the owner of that number before the provider releasing the phone number to the new provider.  The authentication is done by SMS message send by the previous provider to your old SIM card.  You need to reply "Yes" to the authentication SMS before your previous provider release your phone number to PM.

Number porting is a 2 stage process:
Stage 1. After submitted your porting request, PM set up your old number on your PM account. Login to your account. Select the [Plan and Add-Ons] tab. Is your old number showing on the [Plan and Add-Ons] page?
If yes, PM has done its work to setup your old number for you to call out, send text and data.
If no, you should create a support ticket for moderator to investigate. Moderator wait time is from couple of hours to couple of days.

Stage 2. Now, you are waiting for your old provider to release your number to PM. Not until your old provider release your number, all the incoming calls and texts will continue to go to your old provider. You can continue to use the old provider SIM card until it stops working which is the indication that your number was released to PM.

@Mavis-Young221  I see you have other post about porting from MTS.  Part of the porting process is to reply an SMS from your old provider, in your case would be MTS.  Have you done so?  If not, we can provide you a number to contact PM to re-trigger the process.

@Mavis-Young221 : Did you leave the MTS SIM in to wait for a confirmation text from them? If not, put it in and see if it comes. If it's been <90 minutes then it should transfer.

@Mavis-Young221 , by chance are you a new customer that ported in the number from the previous provider?  If so, it is likely that your number port has not been completed properly.  Please check out and follow this announcement thread to recover the number port.

Cannot receive any inbound calls, go to MTS voicemail, mts tells me that they have been notified by Public ?  I can make outbound call fine and text works fine ?

If you just signed up and ported your number from another carrier, likely the port is not complete yet if you can't call or send texts. Remove PM sim and insert old sim to continue while port is completing. When old sim stops working, remove and insert PM sim. Port should now be complete. Porting can take several hours, or into next day, from my experience.

If you recently requested your old number to be ported from another provider, your old SIM / old provider account will continue to work until the port is complete.

Port transfers are a 2 stage process. You will know the port is complete when all incoming calls and texts go directly to your Public Mobile SIM and your old account is automatically closed.

If you did not request a port/transfer, try calling your number from another phone. Does it work? If some people are unable to call your phone, make sure they are dialing the correct 10 digit number.

If (some) callers are not getting through, then you should notify Moderators.

To submit a ticket: Click the green question mark at bottom and enter your question into SIMon. Answer the prompts until you get to the Contact Us button, click it and a Submit Ticket button should appear.

If you encounter problems with submitting a ticket, you can also send a private message to Moderators, but this alternate contact method may have longer response time.

@Binksanford

Maybe try rebooting your phone.

You can also try putting SIM card in another phone.  To help determine whether hardware issue versus public mobile service problem.

As stated above, more details are needed to guide further assistance.

Is it only incoming calls? Are your calls going directly to voicemail?  you receive texts? Do you have do not disturb enabled or flight mode enabled ? You should use Simon (?tiomark) and contact a moderator.  Type moderator and follow the prompts.

Did you just activate and transfer a number? If so then that can take some time depending on where from.

With these kinds of questions, would this be how you would approach a call centre person? Just a short non-informative terse statement not even asking a question?

Hello, thank you for calling your service provider how may I help you today.

Only out bound is working.

Um...ok..

and then the questions start.
