Hello,
Obviously this is now solved, since I'm writing it, but for others:
Your self-serve username is not your community username.
YOUR SELF-SERVE USERNAME IS NOT YOUR COMMUNITY USERNAME.
They want you to make up a new username, not to put your email address there like one intuitively might just after making a self-serve account and registering a SIM card, and then put your email address into a different field lower down the page.
I had some sharp words with SimonBot over this confusion.
Okay thanks.

@Chamberlian Yep, a little annoying to have different usernames BUT I doubt that you really would want your email address published in this open public forum.
BTW: Single sign on to access Community and self serve has been suggested to PM. If implemented it would likely mean your username could never be changed, so choose wisely if implemented!
Oh, and one more word of caution. The email used to activate your account does seem to be immutable even if you change your self serve username (email address). Even the moderators cannot change it.

Self serve account username is your email address.
Community forums you choose a username you want BUT ensure email address is same as self serve account in order to get credited for any Community Rewards you earn.
