No service

Hi.
So I bought a public mobile sim card and just activated it with the 25 dollars plan.
I put the sim card in my phone and there's no service.
The phone actually detects the sim card in the settings but I have no service.

What does that mean ?

PS : My phone is well unlocked.

In this case I think there's a problem of the Sim card, you probably need to replace a new one.

well I'm leaving the state tomorrow for a week so that's kind of too late.

When I think I bought it for that specific purpose...

Can you go back where you bought it and ask for a new one?

@hycm53 please don't tell people to check on that site, since they still insist that PM offers a 2G GSM network, which they never have.  IRONICALLY, they actually get it right for Telus and Koodo that there is no 2G GSM network available, but for some reason they are wrong about PM.  Go figure.

According this website, your phone only works with PM 2G, I'm not sure if it is an issue that your phone has no service.

Public mobile does not support 2G, so this phone only has one band compatible with Public Mobile.  That is probably the issue.

@lordzias01

Maybe ask a friend to try to put the PM SIM card in another phone.  I have a feeling that it is a phone compatilibility issue.  PM does not support 2G.

Another option is to contact moderator via private message, but expect 1-2 day wait.  Moderator can make sure that there is no PM service/activation issue.

Looks like I do need to get a compatible phone for that.

Hi, you may need a different unlocked phone that is compatible with the Telus network.

I changed the slot but still nothing.

With such poor band compatibility, it is quite conceivable that locally an 850 Mhz connection cannot be made.

Can you try a different sim card in your phone? Just to verify if it's your phone or the sim...a different from your old company to be sure...??

I thought of putting the sim card in another phone and see but unfortunately I don't have access to any.
I'll try to switch the slot.

@lordzias01

Do you have access to another phone?  Try putting your SIM card into another phone to determine whether it is a hardware issue versus Public mobile service issue.

It is a dual sim phone, maybe try switching to other slot?

Not all international phones are compatible with PM.

I just checked your phone:

2G bandsGSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 - SIM 1 & SIM 2
3G bandsHSDPA 850 / 900 / 2100

https://www.gsmarena.com/infinix_hot_5-9427.php

It does not support LTE.  Only has one band 850 that is compatible with Public mobile.

Public Mobile uses the following frequency bands:

  • 4G LTE and LTE Advanced: 700 MHz, 850 MHz, 1900 MHz and 2100 MHz downlink and 1700 MHz uplink (AWS).
  • HSPA: 850 MHz, 1900 MHz (UMTS).

I am not a tech expert, so maybe others can chime in to see whether your phone will work with PM.

Thanks for answering.

The payment has been processed since I can see it in my transaction history.

I have an Infinix Hot 5 and it's an international compatible sim card phone. Never had any issue with any sim card since I started using it.

I rebooted the phone a few times already. Still nothing.

I haven't ported my number. It's my first Canadian sim card actually.

@lordzias01

Did your payment process?  IF used credit card, check your online statment.

What model phone do you have?  some phones are not compatible with PM.

Try re-booting the phone.  Sometimes, it take more time for activation to complete.  maybe 15-30 minutes max.  If you ported your number, might need to wait longer.
