New customer with keeping same number but old not cancelled.

We set the public mobile SIM card up keeping the old phone number which we had been using with provider Bell Mobility. We are now a couple days since setting up the Public Mobile and the Bell account is still not cancelled. We are getting messages and texts some on one phone and others on the other. We need to have our Bell account cancelled.

Please keep your Bell number active during port.  After Bell released your number(s) to PM, Bell will cancel your account.

After couple of days, as @Dunkman pointed out, you port may be stuck.  Create a support ticket to get moderator assistant.

You can also call Bell to ask what was the hold up.  If Bell is paying the retention game as @computergeek541 suggested, they may release your number after they have a chance to talk to you.  But make sure don't cancel your Bell account while you are trying to get Bell to release your number.

FYI

Number porting is a 2 stage process:
Stage 1. After submitted your porting request, PM set up your old number on your PM account. Login to your account. Select the [Plan and Add-Ons] tab. Is your old number showing on the [Plan and Add-Ons] display?
If yes, PM has done its work to setup your old number for you to call out, send text and data.
If no, you should create a support ticket for moderator to investigate. Moderator wait time is from couple of hours to couple of days. https://publicmobile.ca.ada.support/chat/

Stage 2. Now, you are waiting for your old provider to release you number to PM. Not until your old provider release your number, all the incoming calls and texts will continue to go to your old provider.

You can continue to use your Bell SIM card until it stops working which is the indication that your number was released to PM.

Did you port your Bell  number when you first activated your Public mobile SIM card?  If you did, it looks like a stuck port.  With your PM SIM card, you should not be able to receive call or texts at your old Bell number.  You should be able to send texts/phone calls with your old number with PM SIM card.

You may want to contact moderator to check on the port.

To contact moderator via 2 methods:

  1. Ticketing system - faster response time

Ya it’s always good to keep the old Bell account active before porting over. Successful porting would take max 2 hours once you’ve prepaid for your plan and set everything up like auto pay.

Do not get Bell Mobility to cancel the account. First double check the Bell Mobility account number.  Sometiomes, Bell won't release a phone number until giving the departing customer a sales pitch.  While this may go against conventional wisdom, try calling Bell Mobility if they are delaying the number port to give you a customer retentiion pitch.
