What am I doing wrong? I have a new sim card, activated it online, picked a new phone number, and completed the auto payment. Public mobile says I'm activated, but my phone says 'no service'. Do I need to do something else?

So how about that itunes process?
It having been connected for 30 seconds may preclude that but hey...
Can you put the SIM in any other phone to see whether the service is all good on its own?

Hi @angieerickson ,
I wonder if the SIM is shifting out of place. Try removing and reinserting it.
If this continues to give you no service, contact the Moderator_Team via private message using this link maybe they can re-provision your account.

That's great @angieerickson !
Check to see if you can make outgoing/incoming calls & texts.
If you just ported your phone number from another cell provider it could take a few hours to complete the port.
If you ported from a landline it could take up to 7 days to complete.
Make sure you do not cancel your previous provider's services until the port is complete; when the port is complete the other account will close automatically.

What worked? Glad to hear it nonetheless.
Based on the solution checkmark, I'm going to assume that it was resetting the network settings and restarting the phone.

Its an older iphone. iPhone 5s.
I'm more than a little hazy in Apple-speak...
try connecting usb to itunes to internet and download any updates or carrier settings.
Edit: beat me to it
The iTunes stuff isn't really so much about updates, but rather to check with the Apple server if a Public Mobile sim card is allowed to be used in that device.

@angieerickson Try restarting your phone. If it's still an issue submit a ticket to PM and ask them to reset your account as it might not have provisioned properly.
To submit a ticket click the ? bottom right and type mod.

Did you run the Apple activation procedure? I know that recent iPhone devices can be activated with Apple on the device itself, but I would try connecting it to iTunes using a USB cable and a computer.
