Curious if any Alberta residents could comment on their AB voucher experiences.
I just bought two $40 vouchers at the Canmore Canadian Tire. I was expecting to pay only GST and save the 7% BC PST, but to my surprise, my credit card was only charged $40 total per transaction.
Is this normal, or an error in how CT coded the the vouchers?
Also I was able to load the vouchers on first attempt, 5 minutes after purchase.
Solved! Go to Solution.

@popping yeah i was pretty sure it was an error on CT side of things, It was just a happy surprise, i thought was worth mentioning. maybe check out one of your local CT and buy a 10$ voucher and see what you are charged.

That has to be a mistake on Canadian Tire's part. It sounds as if Canadian Tire might have either pogrammed the vouchers into the sales system as either a gift card or as a non-taxable item such as basic groceries.
Could there be some type of store promotion going on for there to be a discount equal to the sale tax?
If it is CT promo, CT will give you eCTM - not collecting GST. It is CT error.

Yes, PM autopay charges GST + 911 fee on my accounts with AB area code.
I don't know about CT. If CT does not collect the GST, CRA will still collect GST from CT. It is not your problem any more.

@mimmo maybe that's why some customers complain about being taxed...? check your card transaction again in 24hrs, maybe you'll get another charge
