The last time I bought a PM USA Roaming add-on was three or four years ago. PM - or their USA partner(s) - might've changed the implementation details since then.

I have never heard of this thing you speak of? There was the no texts for 24 hours after you return to Canada glitch but that was fixed a long time ago.
Additionally the pm plans that offer unlimited US calling is for calling the US while you are in Canada. It won't work the other way around.
Have you been tinkering with the flux capacitors again?

What I was trying to explain was that your phone service will be "transferred" to USA and no longer work in Canada for the entire add-on duration. Of course Public Mobile (Telus) is still your base provider, you only get "roaming" service through their arrangements with AT&T USA while the add-on is active, but your phone number and service contract are not actually "transferred" to somebody else's registry.
It's a bit of a pain if you want to buy the add-on so you can use your phone in USA for a long weekend trip or something, but you also want your phone to work in Canada when you return before the 10 days are up.
(At least it was inconvenient for me - I'd visit friends in Seattle, WA all weekend then couldn't call work from Vancouver, BC on Monday morning - back in the pre-covid days. Maybe they've changed how it works now?)

For very short trips (only a few days) the US Roaming add-ons aren't worth the hassle. Because they temporarily transfer your phone service from Canada to USA and they have a fixed 10-day duration. You can open a support ticket with the CSAs/Mods or the stupidbot to get it transferred back before the 10 days have elapsed, but that's a bit of a chore.
For long trips to USA (which would require multiple US Roaming purchases/renewals every 10 days) it'll cost less to change your plan to one which includes US calling. You can change it back when you return to Canada, there's no costs attached to this.
For very long trips to USA (many months) it'll probably cost less to subscribe to an American cell provider instead, unless you need to keep the same number or you like having the big plan with big data or you still need to do a lot of calling to Canada from USA. You can allow your PM plan to become deactivated/suspended/expired due to lack of payment, and it will stay suspended for 90 days since last payment before it is permanently terminated (lost forever), there's no costs attached to this.
@Korth...the 10 Day US Roaming add-ons don't actually transfer anything. You still have the same PM cell number...people in Canada and elsewhere can still dial your regular number to get ahold of you. The benefit is that you can use your cell while in US to call / text most US numbers as well as call / text back to Canada. If you opt for the data add-on...that's available to you to use while in US as well.
I've used that 10 Day US Roaming for weekend camping trips to US (pre-covid) and find it's an economical add-on even for a weekend.
Once you get back to Canada, there's nothing more to do. It'll just expire after your 240 hours have expired.

While YOU are in Canada Public Mobile offers two plans, currently, that includes calling to the U.S.A (and Canada).
If you are looking for occasional calling to the U.S.A from Canada, than you may only be looking for a regular addon-see @hairbag1's post: https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Plans-Add-Ons/phone-service-in-the-USA/m-p/745275/hig...

You can purchase US roaming add-ons which expire 10 days after purchase.

If you just need to call US FROM Canada, you can get that add-on as well. You'll be able to call most US numbers while you're in Canada.
edit....1000 US LD Minutes for $15. Those add-on minutes stay on your account until you use them up...even if that takes several years or more.

PM has a 10 Day US Roaming add-on. Load $$ into your Available Funds, then "buy" your add-on. Remember that it lasts for 10 days only, so buy just before you go. Also...it only works while in USA.
Alternative, is get free voip app like TextNow which uses wifi and seems like free wifi is everywhere nowadays. You might have to ask for the password at restaurant, cafes or resorts.

You can buy only 10 days add-on and it starts immediately when you pay for it. It is OK for short jump south but for longer usage you might look for local U.S. SIM.

@zie1946 Yes, you will have to buy US Roaming add-on
there are different one depends on your needs.
you can get more details here:
https://www.publicmobile.ca/en/on/get-help/articles/us-roaming
Please note all of them are 10 days add-on and start counting the 10 days/240 hours from the moment the add-ons are purchased
But, how long is your trip? If you are going long, it will be cheaper to get local prepaid data sim. You can more data and cheaper out of it.
also, remember you can use VoIP app like TextNow to call US and Canada for FREE!!! You just need to download the app and use it whenever you have Wifi or Mobile Data
