Try disabling extended messaging features. Use standard plaintext SMS/MMS.

Many messaging apps (like iMessage, Signal, etc) provide features which extend basic SMS/MMS protocols. They look prettier, support emotes and animations and sounds, offer "better" security, whatever. They use non-standard, proprietary messaging protocols.

But staid, boring, busy institutions like government offices, banks, and big corporations are reluctant to embrace new technologies and features which might break something that already works, which might (in their assessment) potentially introduce extra costs and security risks, which might lock them into proprietary dependency. They like proven, solid, reliable, standard SMS/MMS.

If you are using something like iMessage then you can always turn the extended messaging features back on after you're done with your 2FA verifications. But it's worth turning them off during 2FA just to eliminate problems. Worth trying if nothing else works, anyhow.

Did you port in your number from a VoIP provider?

CRA specifically also offers the option to call instead of SMS, have you tried that?

Are other people able to call you from landlines or cell phones on a network other than Telus Mobility, Koodo, or Public Mobile? If you didn't complete your number port successfully, callers from other networks will still be unable to reach you.

If you don't have another phone convenient to try calling from, sign up for a free TextNow account which will let you dial your public mobile number from their app or from their website.

To help confirm if the port was not completed successfully, try putting your previous carriers SIM card into your phone and confirm it does not work. If it still works, it means the previous carrier never received the port-out request, and you possibly didn't respond to the port-out request confirmation SMS that was sent to the old SIM within 90 minutes. In this case, you will need to open a ticket with the Public Mobile customer service agents to re-try the port while you have the old SIM still in your phone...

Since you are receiving other 2FA codes, it is likely an issue with the Bank and CRA

Bank's 2FA will take a full week after porting, this is a security feature they set.  Wait till Monday, try again.  If not work, check with your Bank first

Not sure CRA, but I guess same, wait for Monday to try again before calling them for help

@kiftikhar    If it's been over a week since you activate and/or ported your number, then you should be able to receive government/bank shortcodes by now.

First try rebooting/toggling airplane mode on off.  You can also see if powering off and removing the SIM for a couple of minutes before reinserting and rebooting might help.  Another option is to reset the network which will also mean having to reset WIFI password afterwards.

Otherwise you might need further assistance from customer support by submitting a ticket via chatbot here:  https://www.publicmobile.ca/get-help

@kiftikhar   just want to confirm are you getting regular text/sms from friend?  again, key is the traditional sms and NOT those iMessage or RCS

Also, do you get the 2FA code  from  PM when you sign into to Public Mobile's My Account?

@kiftikhar   Are you a new customer?  I believe being able to receive shortcodes from banks/governments can take a few days to become effective after a new account is activated.
