so we went to set up a new phone and transfer, but now the eversafe has a two step authentication and the second step texts a code to the number not in use. so no way to login to the account

Your kid account needs PM to help to sort out the login issue to re-buy eSIM. Since you cannot properly login, you won't be able to open the preferred Chatbot ticket. So, you will need to message them here: https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/notes/composepage/note-to-user-id/22437

my kid ported the data over using the house wifi, but calls and texts are lost as esim was on old phone which he reset

You requested porting of your phone # during activation? Did you reply YES to the porting authorization text? Is your Public Mobile sim card working with full services? ( Data, incoming/outgoing texts and calls?)
