network upgrades might degrade service for some

Hi, anyone there knows it better, please help 🙂

I recently read a article  called " Public Mobile warns network upgrades might degrade service for some"  , saying "Public Mobile is texting some customers to warn them of potential lost or degraded service starting June 3, 2025", this is the lick:   Public Mobile warns network upgrades might degrade service for some

Ever since I have been quite nervures  worrying if I would be one of them because A) my phone is 7-year-old  Samsung Note 9 B) I DID get the text massage in May and C)I DO find my phone has "connecting" issues more frequently lately. In addition, my phone is NOT in the list  of "Certified VoLTE devices compatible with Public Mobile"

To make long story short, am I overthink it while my phone is till working perfectly 99% of the time as of today? most important, is it the time start looking for a NEW( latest) phone?

Thanks for your attention 😉

Got it! I'll speed up my search for the new phone😊.  I never paid attention to the battery life 'declining" over the 7 years, it's been always at around 45% by the time I go to bed at night, and I charge it over night for the next day. Anyway, I still consider this Note 9 has been my favorites phone among ALL the phones I had🤩

I guess I haven't really consider "security update" seriously since Samsung stopped providing it in 2023, I installed some type of anti-virus app on my phone, and so far so good😉. Well, I'm afraid it is time to change my phone (just wish I don't have to "learn" so much high tech stuffs all over again😂😂)

Again, thanks for your time!

@Becool29, I have brought over 10 customers (not including myself) and some have older phones. So far, no one has been having network issues, this could change of course but knock on wood, no issues. I personally wouldn't panic but I would be passively looking for an upgrade. My old phone was around 5 years old and I was noticing battery life becoming much weaker, couldn't even get by 1 day with a full charge. My new to me phone now lasts pretty much 2 full days with light to moderate use

Not urgent at all. This only affects your ability to make voice calls in very poor coverage areas.

Thanks @eddieO , while my phone has been working well as of today, it does at the cost of not able to install some "nice to have" Apps due to its compatibility, I've certainly started searching around the new phone already.  My concern is how URGENG I need to replace my phone with the PM's "warning" : starting June 3rd 2025 ? Am I risking to loss my network connection suddenly one day without further notification from PM 'cos I was already being texted about issue earlier?

Do you, by any chance, know any of Public Mobile user has lost or has weaker "connection" due to PM's recent network updating?

@Becool29, while your phone is still working fine for now, at 7 years old I'm sure the battery life is not where it used to be so getting a new or newer phone should definitely have you spending less time finding power outlets for charging again. On top of battery life, newer phones will offer ability to connect to 5G, VoLTE which will help if you ever visit the U.S. for making voice calls, better cameras, I'm sure there are other features that I'm missing. If your phone is working 99% of the time at least you shouldn't be in a hurry but it should be something to think about

HI @Becool29

it is true our phones would not work forever even the phone is not broken.

Note 9 is generally ok but you got the "downgrade" likely because 850 network signal  is gone in your area and you are far from 1900 network on 3G network

if that is a constant issue, think of getting a new phone.  Note 9 has no more security update, it is not safe to use anyway
