Upload speeds are now throttled on all plans

Not sure when this went into effect but it appears to be a fairly recent change. UL speeds are now limited to 10% of DL.

4G speed plans: 100 Mbps DL, 10 Mbps UL

5G speed plans: 250 Mbps DL, 25 Mbps UL

Interesting. I could've sworn a few years ago I was getting 60-70 Mbps UL

When Public Mobile had all plans set at the same speed, higher upload speeds were possible, and at times,  download speeds faster than 250Mbps also did occur.  From what I recall, those type of speeds continued even after the introduction of 3G speed plans (for those customers who remained on the full speed plans).

Interestingly, there was a throttle/speed reduction specific to Public Mobile customers at one point, but that was corrected/changed after Public Mobile was called out on it.  At the time, customers noticed that download speeds were limited to about 60Mbps.

When Public Mobile re-introduced plans with faster than 3Mbps download speeds, that's when the reduction of upload speeds occurred.  The current 4G speed plans have always had a maximum upload sped of about 10Mbps and the 5G speed plans have always had a maximum upload speed of about 25Mbps.  This is not anything new, and if you look back through my Community post history, I'm sure anyone can find examples that I gave of this when these new types of plans were introduced.

Some oracles have asked Public Mobile about the upload speeds, and Public Mobile assures us that nothing has recently changed speed wise.

Sorry if I was unclear. It's a static setting on user profiles, Telus has chosen 250/25 and 100/10 for the limits. It's not a dynamic 10% limit.

My speed: 95 DL, 7UP. So, the 10% of the speed seems to be true

From what I've experienced in testing, this isn't new and I haven't seen any changes.  I've always experienced upload speeds that are limited to approximately 10% of the maximum download speed on Public Mobile's 4G and 5G plans.

All these numbers regarding speed are just theoretical maximum and vary depending on number of customers currently on-line.
Even your home internet provider cannot guarantee you their advertised up/down speed.

Not official. I found them from testing. I don't like the sneaky nature of these changes. They should provide notice to customers and be transparent about changes.

thanks @sheytoon

those UL numbers are official and you found it from somewhere? or just from your test?

it sounds bad, but for most of us, upload speed at 10 or 25 is reasonable for regular mobile use
