Most times, you do not want to call the old carrier to cancel at all, ever.
There are some rare exceptions to that, but when porting out the old carrier's service is supposed to cancel automatically.
Generally, advice should not be given to the customers to cancel (even if they tink that porting is done). This is because customers often don't understand when porting really is complete. The fact that you sbumitted the request and that the ported number shows up on call display when making an outgoing call does not meant that porting is done.
In almost every case, calling the old carrier to cancel the service will result in a failed number port. This is because if the service was still activate at the old carrier, this almost always means that the port is not complete. By having them cancel it, you are preventing the port over.

Number porting is a 2 stage process:
Stage 1. After submitted your porting request, PM set up your old number on your PM account. Login to your account. Select the [Plan and Add-Ons] tab. Is your old number showing on the [Plan and Add-Ons] display?
If yes, PM has done its work to setup your old number for you to call out, send text and data.
If no, you should create a support ticket for moderator to investigate.
Stage 2. Now, you are waiting for your old provider to release you number to PM. Not until your old provider release your number, all the incoming calls and texts will continue to go to your old provider. You can continue to use the old provider SIM card until it stops working which is the indication that your number was released to PM.

You will find some articles on porting your number here:
https://www.publicmobile.ca/en/ns/get-help/articles/change-your-phone-number
https://www.publicmobile.ca/en/ns/get-help/articles/choose-your-phone-number
Keep your koodo account active until the port process is complete. While waiting for the process to complete, you may continue to use your koodo sim to receive your calls and texts. Once the port is complete, your koodo account will be closed automatically and all calls plus texts will be directed to your publc mobile sim.

You need moderator help to port your Koodo number once you activate with a temporary cell phone number. Type "Port Request" and follow the prompts to get to one. Give them the name on the account, phone number to port and the old providers account number. There are 2 ways to contact the Moderator Team:
Keep an eye on the envelope top right of your screen. The mods answer will show up there. Stay safe.
Welcome to PM .

"Most importantly, do not cancel your service before you switch to the new provider.Tell your new phone provider that you want to keep your number. They will take care of the transfer for you – they’ll ask for some personal details to set up your account and ask you which services you want to keep, remove or change."
